We’ll be examining tonight’s NHL battle between the Kings and Blues. Take the time to read our insightful NHL betting preview on this contest, and it culminates with a free pick on the total.

NHL Western Conference Premier Matchup
The Blues and Kings will collide tonight at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The opening faceoff is slated for 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bovada, the Blues are a -137 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. This will be the 2nd meeting of the season between these two Western Conference powers. The Kings defeated the Blues 1-0 in Los Angeles on October 16th. Dating back to last season’s Stanley Cup playoffs, the Kings have won 5-games in a row in this head-to-head series.

Road Woes Continue
The defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings have inexplicably struggled on the road to start the 2014-2015 NHL campaign. They’ve gone a dismal 4-11 against the money line in away games entering tonight. Today will be the finale of a 5-game in 8-day road trip for the Kings that’s seen them go 1-3 thus far. The Kings have seen each of their previous 3-games go over the total with an average of 7.7 goals combined being scored per contest. Part of the problem has been the uneven play of Jonathan Quick at home compared to on the road. Quick has compiled a stellar .929 save percentage in 24-starts this season, posted 4-shutouts, and has gone 10-4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. However, on the road has been a whole other story. He’s 2-8 in away games with a very vanilla .908 save percentage.

No Reason to sing the Blues in St. Louis
The St. Louis Blues have been on an absolute roll since their slow 2-4 start. Since that time, they’ve gone an extremely profitable 18-6 against the money line during in their last 24-games.They enter tonight on a 4-game winning streak and scored 19-goals combined during that time. St. Louis is coming off a 3-2 home win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, and that contest stayed under the closing total of 5.5. That marked the first time in the last 12-games that the Blues had gone under the total. Rookie Jake Allen is listed as the probable starter in goal for the Blues tonight, and he’s been shaky in his last 4-starts with a poor .878 save percentage.

Final Analysis
The posted total of 5.0 in this game seems to reflect both teams past reputations more than recent performance levels. A vast majority of the early money pertaining to the total in this game has went the way of the under. I don’t agree at all with the general public in that regard, and I’ll be going the opposite way when making one of my NHL picks for today.
