Our resident NHL professional consultant shares his top three totals selections for Thursday in this article. Join us in reading the insightful analysis on each of these contests as it pertains to the totals.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Philadelphia Flyers 8:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers will attempt to continue on their recent playoff push tonight when they host the unquestioned worst team (Buffalo) in the NHL. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the posted total in this game is 5.5. These teams met just last Sunday in Buffalo, and the Flyers skated away with a 2-1 win.

Sabres can’t put the Puck in the Ocean
The Buffalo Sabres have gone under the total in six consecutive games, and they scored a grand total of just eight goals combined during that time frame. Buffalo’s scoring drought comes as no surprise since the Sabres are averaging a paltry 1.8 goals per game which ranks last in the NHL. On a positive note, Michal Neuvirth is seizing the opportunity to be the goaltender of the future for the Buffalo Sabres organization. Since the Sabres traded Jonas Enroth to Dallas last week, Neuvirth has started two games, and posted an exceptional .954 save percentage.

Strong in Season Trend on the Under for Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers are coming off a 5-2 loss to Columbus in their previous game. The Flyers have gone under the total in seven of eight games this season after allowing five goals or more in their previous contest. Those eight contests averaged a miniscule 3.8 goals combined scored per game. Despite making a recent surge during the past couple of weeks, the Flyers are averaging just 2.0 goals per game during their previous seven outings.

NHL Pick: Play on the Sabres and Flyers to go under the total of 5.5 at Pinnacle.

Vancouver Canucks vs. New York Rangers 7:05 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks will be making their only regular season appearance at Madison Square Garden tonight. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the total in this game is 5.5. These teams met earlier this season in Vancouver, and the Rangers came away with a convincing 5-1 win.

Both Teams playing on the High Side in recent Games
The New York Rangers have seen each of their previous four games go over the total. The Rangers scored five goals or more in all four of those games, and also allowed three goals or more in all but one contest during that time. The Vancouver Canucks haven’t seen any of their previous ten games stay under the number, and they scored five goals or more in four of those ten. This one has all the ear marks of a high scoring game, and that will be one of my NHL picks for Thursday.

NHL Pick: Play on the Canucks and Rangers to go over the total of 5.5 at 5Dimes.

Florida Panthers vs. Montreal Canadiens 7:35 PM ET
The Florida Panthers will attempt to continue their pursuit of qualifying for the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs when they invade the Belle Centre in Montreal to take on the Canadiens. According to the NHL betting odds at BetOnline, the current posted total in this game is 5.0.

Panthers already in tight checking Playoff Mode
Florida has seen each of their previous four games go under the total. Those four contests averaged only 3.3 goals combined per game scored. Roberto Luongo is slated to get the start in goal for Florida, and he’s been outstanding as of late. In his last four starts, Luongo has compiled a terrific .941 save percentage, and saw three of those games stay under the total.

The Price is Right
The Montreal Canadiens Carey Price is unquestionably the hottest goaltender in the NHL at this moment. Price has seen just one of his last twelve starts go over the total. As a matter of fact, in his last eleven starts, Price has posted an excellent 1.16 GAA, and earned three shutouts. During his last four, Price has an off the charts .973 save percentage, and each of those games went under the total.

NHL Pick: Play on the Panthers and Canadiens to go under the total at BetOnline
