Our NHL consultant takes a long hard look at tonight’s game between Chicago and Tampa Bay. He provides us with all the key underlying factors pertaining to this contest, and culminates this insightful NHL betting article with a money line selection.
Hawks on a short Florida Trip
The Tampa Bay Lightning will host the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday at 7:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, Tampa Bay is a -140 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. These teams met once this season and Chicago skated away with a 3-2 overtime shootout win. The last four times these clubs have met in Tampa Bay saw each of those games go over the total.
Trouble Brewing in “The Windy City”
The Chicago Blackhawks will be without the services of leading scorer Patrick Kane for the next twelve weeks after he underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a broken left clavicle (collarbone). There’s also been recent reports of internal strife amongst Blackhawks players, specifically a locker room fight, although the incident has yet to be confirmed.
Hawks playing the Low Side on the Road
Despite their off the ice issues, the Blackhawks are coming off consecutive wins in each of their previous two games, and both came at the expense of the Florida Panthers. Chicago was a 3-2 winner at home on Tuesday, and came away with a 3-0 victory at Florida last night. The Hawks have seen just one of their previous seven games go over the total, and only one of the last eleven has surpassed the number when they’re playing with no rest. Chicago has also seen just eight of thirty games (26.7%) this season on the road go over the total. Rookie backup goaltender Scott Darling is expected to get the nod for this evening. Darling has gone 6-2 in eight starts this season, and just one of those contests went over the total.
High Scoring Lightning Rested and Ready
The Tampa Bay Lightning will enjoy a huge advantage in terms of rest tonight. They will be facing an opponent (Chicago) playing their third game in the last four and fourth in the previous six days. Contrarily, the Lightning will enter tonight with four days of rest following a 5-4 loss at Colorado this past Sunday. Tampa Bay has also gone an extremely profitable 22-7 against the money line at home this season. The Lightning has seen seven of their last ten games go over the total, and all of those contests hads five goals or more combined being scored. Tampa has gone under the total in only twelve of their previous fifty-five games at home when facing an opponent with a better than .500 winning percentage. The Lightning are tops in the NHL averaging 3.3 goals per game this season. They get the call for one of my NHL picks on Friday.
