The Los Angeles Kings are coming off their second Stanley Cup win in three years. They’re at 9/1 on the NHL odds to do it again. Can they Kings again contend for another Cup in the challenging West?

What Went Wrong Last Season?
Nothing, they won the Stanley Cup. The Kings had a so-so regular season but still finished with 100 points in the Western Conference. While that seems low since five other teams finished with more points, in the East, they would have been in second.

In the playoffs, everything came together and they made another impressive win en route to winning it all.

Offseason Changes
Not much has changed on this Los Angeles Kings roster and there’s reason to believe they’ll only get better. The biggest concern was re-signing Marian Gaborik, and they got that done. They also managed to keep Dwight King and Matt Greene. Willie Mitchell might be the team’s biggest lost but they are loaded on the blue line, so nothing to really worry about there.

Projected Finish
The Kings probably won’t climb much higher in the standings because they don’t focus as much on the regular season but they are still one of the better Stanley Cup contenders. Gaborik will be with them the whole season (acquired at last year’s trade deadline), Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli are a year older, and virtually the rest of the team returns intact. Even though Mike Richards’ play has declined and he’s been moved to the lower lines, the Kings should be very dangerous up front. With the Gaborik-Dustin Brown-Anze Kopitar line and the Jeff Carter-Toffoli-Pearson lines leading the way.

For your NHL picks the West is tough and the Kings have played a ton of hockey over the last three seasons but this is still a young team on the rise. Look for them to make it to the western conference final once again.
