San Francisco is already looking awful this preseason. This time, QBs have a lot to prove, therefore putting effort for next match on Friday as they will be facing Packers. Join us for the bet NFL picks here at SBR.

Green Bay Packers vs San Francisco 49ers

Packers What To Watch For
Green Bay is 2-0 in the preseason for the first time in seven years despite the fact that Rodgers hasn't taken a single snap. Of course the Packers were to play five preseason games as they were scheduled to face Indianapolis in the Hall of Fame Game, but that was canceled. Green Bay beat visiting Cleveland 17-11 in the preseason opener and then welcomed Oakland last Thursday and won 20-12. Eddie Lacy looked sharp vs. the Raiders with nine carries for 45 yards and a touchdown in his lone series. Packers backup QB Brett Hundley got the start and was going to play quite a while but he reinjured his left ankle in the second quarter. The former UCLA star will not play in San Francisco. He has taken just 20 preseason snaps from center.

Rodgers will get the start here, and while many teams play their starters for the first half in the second-to-last preseason game, it's not clear if Rodgers will play that long because he already believes he's ready for the regular season -- the offensive system has been the same under Coach Mike McCarthy for a decade -- and has made clear his distaste for exhibition football. Rodgers grew up not too far from the Bay Area in Chicago, Calif., about three hours northeast of San Francisco. Rodgers was a huge 49ers fan, idolizing future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Joe Montana and Steve Young, but he has since carried a grudge with the Niners after they passed over him in favor of Alex Smith with the top overall pick in the 2005 draft.

I don't believe you will see top receiver Jordy  Nelson. He was recently activated off the PUP list and participated in a training camp practice on Monday for the first time this season. Nelson says he will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, but I'm not sure the Packers want to risk him in a game that means nothing. It was one year ago Tuesday that Nelson tore his ACL in a preseason game at Pittsburgh, and that torpedoed Green Bay's season.

This starts a four-game road trip for Green Bay as it closes the preseason next Thursday in Kansas City and then travels to Jacksonville and Minnesota to open the regular season. It's the first time in franchise history the Pack will close the preseason with two road games and then open the regular season with two more away.

The Packers are 2-0 ATS on NFL odds this preseason and 0-2 O/U.

49ers What To Watch For
San Francisco looked pretty awful in a 24-13 home loss to Houston to open the preseason but better last week in a 31-24 victory in Denver. Newly-signed QB Christian Ponder threw for a score and ran for a score in the fourth quarter. He was signed when third-string QB candidate Thad Lewis tore his ACL in camp.

The big story line on the 49ers is on the quarterback battle between Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick. Right now it's not close because Kaepernick hasn't played in the preseason due to a dead arm. But he returned to a full practice on Monday and is expected to play Friday, Kaepernick's  first in-game action since Nov. 1. He could make Coach Chip Kelly's job tougher with a good outing Friday. Gabbert hasn't been picked off or sacked in the two preseason games but has missed some open receivers.

"It's not time yet," said 49ers offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins on Tuesday as to why the starting QB hasn't been named for the season. "It's a competition and Kap hasn't had a chance. So, when that happens and when [head] coach [Chip Kelly] feels like it’s time, we’ll do that."

Two of San Francisco's potential starting defensive linemen, Arik Armstead (2015 first-round pick) and DeForest Buckner (2016 first-round pick) both sat out vs. the Broncos with minor injuries and it's not clear if they will play Friday. Receiver Bruce Ellington also sat out vs. Denver with an ankle injury but is expected to play.

The 49ers are 1-1 ATS on NFL picks this preseason and 1-1 O/U.

Series History
These teams have played four previous preseason games and the Packers' only win was way back in 1959 -- I wasn't even aware they played preseason games back then. The Pack and Niners have played eight times since 2008, five in the regular season, two in the playoffs and one preseason game. They played Week 4 of the 2015 regular season at Levi's Stadium and Green Bay won 17-3. Rodgers threw for 224 yards and a touchdown to tight end Richard Rodgers. Lacy rushed for 90 yards. Kaepernick was just 13-for-25 for 160 yards with an interception and added 57 yards rushing. San Francisco had 196 total yards and eight first downs. Gabbert didn't play.

Go 49ers here as their two main QBs have something to prove and reason to play well, and Rodgers has none. I like 'under' the total.
