Top spot is on the line when the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders collide in a highly anticipated AFC West tilt in Sunday Night’s primetime slot. Where should bettors line up their NFL picks?

Denver Broncos (6-2 SU, 2-1 away)

The Denver Broncos are tied with the Oakland Raiders for top spot in the AFC West, behind a 6-2 SU mark that includes a 2-1 SU mark on the road. Overall, the Broncos are third in the league versus the spread with a 6-2-0 ATS mark that includes a 7.2 winning margin and +4.6 differential versus the spread. Then there’s the little tiny detail of being the defending Super Bowl champions to throw into the equation.

By the stats, the Broncos strike an impressive figure in the context of the division, conference, and league. Yet, surprisingly, they opened as the road underdogs to the Raiders – a side that boasts a 1-2 SU record at home, mind.

Bookmakers went to press with the Broncos hanging on +1.5 for the most part. Some had the Broncos hanging on +1 or a PK line. Although the number is different from sportsbook to sportsbook, the Broncos were deemed underdogs across the board. In that there is uniformity.

Since opening doors, the line has been bet up to Broncos +2 at some sportsbooks, including high limit and reduced juice leaders Pinnacle where the Broncos hang on a +2 (-109) line. The intriguing bit: the public is betting the Broncos to the tune of 67.4% of tickets taken according to consensus polls with SBR.

The reverse line move is down to sharp betting, which is conspicuously going towards the Raiders at early doors. At the moment, the money is split almost evenly (50-50) between the Broncos and Raiders. It’s a way to go yet before the markets close, but it’ll be interesting to see which way late bettors line up on their week 9 NFL picks for this game.

Oakland Raiders (6-2 SU, 1-2 home)

The Raiders are proving to be the vogue NFL pick in many NFL betting circles, particularly when on the road. They are an impressive 5-0 SU on their travels, coming off yet another thrilling victory. That said that form hasn’t transcended home advantage where they are 1-2 SU. One could argue, home advantage is moot at this point with just a victory over the San Diego Chargers to their credit.

Indeed, the Raiders are yet to beat a credible opponent both at home and on the road. Losses to Kansas City and Atlanta mark losses to teams that are above the .500 mark at home and take the shine off of their 6-2-0 SU record on the season. All six wins came against sides that are struggling or inconsistent, such as the Saints, Titans, Chargers, Ravens, Jaguars and Bucs all are.

Overall, the Raiders are 5-3-0 ATS on the season with a 1.5 winning margin and +1.6 differential versus the spread. At home, they are 0-3-0 ATS with a -6.7 losing margin and -8.8 differential versus the spread. By those stats, a bet on the Raiders does look risky.

 Denver Broncos vs Oakland Raiders

By all accounts, this should be a thrilling showdown between two solid teams in the AFC West. Stats tip the balance in favor of the Broncos for week 9 picks, not to mention the renowned defense that could wreak havoc on Derek Carr and the legitimate Raiders offense. Of course, games aren’t played on paper but on the field. The Raiders can’t be dismissed out of hand just because of statistics. They’ve played teams close and there’s a spirit about them that is undeniable. Still, now that the Broncos are trading at +2 it’s just too good of an opportunity to pass up for week 9 NFL picks.
