Week 8 is almost in the NFL betting books in its entirety, so let’s look at the results and determine what betting trends have emerged for NFL enthusiasts to spot in the coming weeks of gridiron action.

NFL Week 8 Main Highlights
It was a scoring feast in week 8 NFL betting, conjuring College Football scores in some cases. So as another week of thrilling NFL betting action comes to a close – only Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins are left to play on Monday Night Football, here’s the highlight reel: Broncos continue their dominating ways covering for a fourth straight week; Lions remain a tough nut to crack with another narrow win at Wembley; the Saints bounce back with a big win over the Packers while the Steelers annihilate Andrew Luck and Company that shocked NFL betting markets. Oh, and the Raiders continue their winless form on the season (0-7SU).

NFL Week 8 Betting Results
The favourites edged the underdogs 10-4 SU and 8-6 ATS. Home teams went 7-7SU but a convincing 10-4 ATS. Finally, the over-under settled on a 7-7 mark after Sunday wrapped up on a 44-23 win by the Saints over the Packers at the Superdome.

Overall NFL Betting Results
Through eight weeks of NFL betting, the favourites have gone 83-35-1 SU and 63-53-3 ATS. Home teams have gone 60-49-1 SU and 55-61-3 ATS. Finally, the over-under sits at 62-57 through eight weeks of NFL betting.

Going Over Thursday Night Football
Week 8’s Thursday Night affair was a right cracker between the Broncos and the Chargers, marking a heavyweight divisional clash. Not only did Thursday’s ‘over’ trends hold true with the game going beyond the 50.5 total set across sportsbook platforms, but also the Broncos proved the biggest favourites to cash on the spread as the 9-point chalk in the 35-21 win. It marked the fourth straight cover and over for the Broncos.

Big Home Faves
Aside from the Broncos cashing as the big home favourites, others to cash as the big home faves were the Chiefs, who came through for backers as the -310 NFL odds favourites and the 7.5-point chalk (moved up from 6-points) in a 34-7 win over the St. Louis Rams; and the Browns, who came through on their -315 money line odds and as the 7-point chalk in a 23-13 win over the hapless Oakland Raiders.

Other home favourites that delivered were the New England Patriots (-260 NFL betting favourites) in a stupendous 51-23 win over the Chicago Bears all while easily covering as the 5.5-point chalk; the Arizona Cardinals (-150), who thwarted the Philadelphia Eagles in a narrow 24-20 win as the mere 3-point chalk; and the New Orleans Saints (-115), who dismissed the surging Packers in a 44-23 win at the Superdome all while covering handily as the nominal 1-point favourites.

The clash between the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals opened with the hosts as the nominal 1-point favourites, but the betting public and bookies balancing the action moved the line towards the visitors by the end of the week, favouring them as high as the 3-point chalk on the road (depending on your sports betting exchange of choice). Tale told Bengals persevered in a narrow 27-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Road Teams To Cash
Buffalo Bills beat the New York Jets 43-23 while the Minnesota Vikings edged the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19-13 in overtime, marking two of the best road underdog accounts on the week both straight up and against the spread.

As well, the Houston Texans cashed as the road favourites in straight up betting and against the spread in a convincing 30-16 win over the Tennessee Titans. The Miami Dolphins came through as the -270 favourites and the 7-point chalk on the road in a 27-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Finally, both Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks came through in SU betting as the favourites – 185 and 240 NFL odds favourites, respectively – but failed to cover. Lions lost to the Falcons in a narrow 22-21 defeat as the 3.5-point chalk while the Seahawks stuttered to a 13-9 defeat to the Panthers as the 6-point chalk.

Home Dogs To Cash
Needless to say, the Panthers became the biggest road dogs to cash in the 13-9 defeat to the Seahawks, while the Falcons covered for the first time in a long time when they succumbed to the narrow 22-21 loss to the Lions. Of all the home dogs, Pittsburgh Steelers left the most indelible impression with a 51-34 annihilation of the Indianapolis Colts as the 3-point chalk. The Steelers also cashed as the +135 home underdogs for their backers.

Total Betting Overview
Week 8 was a veritable scoring fest in many cases. The trend began with a 56-point shootout between the Broncos and Chargers on Thursday and continued to escalate on Sunday with the Bills putting up 43 of the 66-points in their showdown with the Jets; the Saints blowing the Packers in a 44-23 win (67-points); the Patriots alone cracking the 50.0-point total on the NFL odds board in a 51-23 (74 points total) win over the Bears; and the Steelers drumming the Colts in a 85-point extravaganza. The Ravens and Bengals also pushed the 50-point barrier in their clash that went 27-24 to the Bengals.
