Last week was a tough one as the Swinger swung and missed, but the season is a marathon not a sprint and SJ is back with his Week 7’s NFL picks, looking for redemption and plenty of cash.

Swinger’s 2017 NFL Record (7-10 ATS, -5.0 Units)

Some days you’re the windshield and other days you’re the bug. As I write this, I feel like the guy who gave his best buddy a bad stock tip or convinced that same friend starting a company manufacturing fur sinks designed for high-end homeowners would be a terrific idea. You never go into an NFL Sunday expecting to lose, but sometimes it happens and when it does you bite your fingernails to the quick as you watch each game end in disaster and wake up Monday morning feeling as though you got into a bar fight the night before. But unlike you, I have to write about it the next week and relive the nightmare that was the flaming of the Lions (3 units), Redskins (2 units) and Bucs (3 units) all over again. What can I say other than mea culpa, mea culpa and I’ll go so far as to say – I’m sorry. Let’s dust ourselves off and get back at it.

Titans (-5½) at Browns

The Browns are not only bad, but they’re not even competitive. And when a perennial underdog cannot compete, it means it cannot cover. Such is the case with this year’s edition of the Cleveland Browns. The Brownies are winless and have failed to cover in every game but their opener when they hung tough in a divisional battle with their nemesis the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s it, and that’s why we will take a hobbled Marcus Mariota, who put up over 300 yards last week in his team’s 36-22 victory over the Colts, any day of the week (including Sunday) over the hapless Browns. Lay the lumber on this chalky play and back Tennessee in your NFL picks.

Bengals (+5½) at Steelers

When you think Steelers, you think elite quarterback, All-World wideout and Pro Bowl running back, ergo Messrs. Roethlisberger, Brown and Bell. Well, I’m still not convinced Big Ben is still among the elites, which impacts the ethereal talents of Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. This is a team that averages only 19.3 points per game and is tied for 22nd in points scored despite all that offensive weaponry. This is also a divisional game and that always makes me give a bit more consideration to the rival getting the points. The NFL odds makers are giving the Bengals what I feel is a generous head start, and after their last two games, wins over Cleveland and Buffalo in which they averaged 25.5 points per game, I believe they can hang within a field goal of a Pittsburgh team that may still be reveling in its 19-13 road victory over the previously undefeated Chiefs. Trap game for Pittsburgh.

Broncos (+1) at Chargers

We are getting amazing value with the Broncos, so let’s take full advantage. The public will be reliving their nightmare last week when they laid it in on Denver at Mile High against a tattered and torn New York Giants squad. The problem is that the Giants, under Eli’s charge, are a mercurial group that seems to vacillate from abysmal to stunning depending on their circumstances. Last week, Denver was complacent and paid the price. Don’t expect to see that same malaise this week as the Broncos travel to LA (almost typed San Diego AGAIN), where the Chargers have absolutely no home-field advantage as their crowd is almost always dwarfed by fans from the opposition. The Bolts lost their first four and came up with victories in their last two over the Giants and a then-diminished Derek Carr and his Oakland Raiders. Broncos get redemption (kind of a theme this week) on Sunday.

The Woodman’s Corner (4-2 ATS, +1.8 Units)

The Woodman connected on his second consecutive big underdog last week, not only covering the number but winning outright when the Dolphins stunned the Falcons in Atlanta. Great for him and those that tailed but not so much who watched their suicide pool entry crash and burn on the heavily favored Dirty Birds. This week, he is shifting gears and backing a favorite in his NFL picks. Like a solar eclipse, it happens only rarely that the Woodman eschews the points and lays them instead. On Sunday’s slate he is going back to the team he backed in Week 5 when the Jags stunned the Steelers as 8-point road dogs and is now imploring his legions of zealots to lay the lumber and bet Jacksonville over the Colts in hostile territory.
