Week 6 NFL betting will be completed tonight with the 49ers/Rams, but this handicapper's weekly NFL odds recap will cover & analyze the completed games with a slant on betting results & trends revealed.

Week 6 NFL Betting Recap
Week 6 served up 15 games on the NFL betting menu. All but one are in the books, Monday’s clash between San Francisco and St. Louis remains to wrap up a week that many NFL bettors dubbed the week of the home dogs. The highlight reel: Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders remain winless on the season, Panthers and Bengals deliver the season’s first tie, Giants munch on a bagel and Dallas Cowboys serve notice to the defending champions.

All in all, it was a strong showing by the favourites over the underdogs in general SU betting as they went 10-3-1 SU. What’s more, away teams edge home teams 4-9-1 SU. Against the spread with our NFL picks we saw a bit more parity between the favourites and underdogs as they went 8-6 ATS. However, examined from the perspective of home vs. away, home teams were overwhelmed by road teams 4-10 ATS. Finally, total betting went 9-5 over-under.

Through 6 weeks of NFL betting favourites are an overwhelming 61-28-1 SU and 47-40-3 ATS. Home teams edge road teams 50-39-1 SU but trail 38-49-3 ATS. Finally, total betting sits at 48-42 through six weeks.

Big Week For Road Teams
The week began with an exciting Thursday showdown between divisional rivals Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans. While the Texans valiantly battled their superior rivals, the Colts eventually edged the Texans 33-28 to deliver as the road favourites SU and ATS. Although Houston backers were left to rue Houston’s missed field goal attempt late in the game that could have seen the Texans cover instead. The Colts are 5-1-0 ATS while the Texans are 4-2 ATS on the season.

Denver Broncos pulled off their second cover of the season to improve to 2-3-0 ATS on the season when they beat the New York Jets 31-17 as the 9.5-point chalk (spread betting opened with the Broncos as low as 6-point favourites). They also proved the biggest favourites of the week to cash. Jets meanwhile slipped to their fifth defeat in a row and down to 0-5-1 ATS on the season.

Other road favourites that proved bankable were the Ravens, who crushed the Buccaneers 48-17 as the mere 3-point chalk. As well, the Lions, Packers and the Patriots delivered in their respective clashes over Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins. Detroit are 4-2-0 ATS while the Ravens and Packers are 3-2-0 ATS this season and the Patriots are 3-3-0 ATS.

Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals delivered an exciting clash that was filled with momentum swings and high-octane action only to settle on a 37-37 tie. The game produced the highest tally of the week at 74 points, all while the Panthers covered as the 7-point road pups.

The biggest underdogs to cash on the road were the Dallas Cowboys following an upset 30-23 win over Seattle Seahawks. The Cowboys, who extend their winning form to five in a row, also covered as the 9.5-point underdogs to improve 4-2-0 ATS on the season.

Finally, the winless Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off their first cover of the season in 16-14 defeat to the Tennessee Titans. They are 1-5 ATS this season.

Home favourites to cash in SU were the Titans, Browns, Eagles and Cardinals. The latter three also covered as the home favourites on the spread. Oakland Raiders were the only home pups to cover on the spread in week 6 NFL betting when they settled on a 31-28 defeat to the San Diego Chargers as the 8-point pups. That said the Raiders remain winless on the season after five outings (0-5 SU).

Over Rules in Total Betting
Once again, the over ruled on the week with nine of 14 games going over NFL betting expectations. The highest total of the week was 74-points, courtesy of the Panthers and Bengals. The 65-point extravaganza between the Ravens and Bucs featured the most one-sided account. Indeed, Joe Flacco and company busted the 47.5 total mark singlehandedly. (Ravens are 3-3-0 in total betting this season).

Speaking of one-sided, the Eagles blanked the Giants 27-0 in Sunday’s primetime affair, handing the season’s second shutout after the Jets in week 5 NFL betting in San Diego.

Denver Broncos only just pushed the game over 47.5 in their 31-17 win over the Jets, largely down to a late interception that resulted in a touchdown. Similarly, the Packers trailing 20-24 scored a last-gasp touchdown in the dying minutes of the game to snatch the 27-24 victory and nudge the game over the 49-point total mark (Packers joined Colts at 5-1-0 over-under on the season). Finally, the Browns streak of four ‘overs’ in a row ended when they beat the Steelers 31-10 but went under for the first time this season.

Lions’ 17-3 win over the Vikings marked their fifth under of the season while the Eagles’ 27-0 win over the Giants and the Jaguars’ defeat to the Titans marked their second under of the season.
