2016 Football Selections on this site continue their solid start. Through Wednesday, September 14th, NFL selections are 6-2 ATS, while College selections are 10-5 ATS. That is good for a combined mark of 16-7 ATS (70%) winners! Although selections may not continue at that torrid pace throughout the season, I assure you that, if you follow the advice embedded in my analyses this season, you will have a better chance to succeed in the point spread wars. Always remember to shop for value and to use the valuable resources at this site to put every edge in your favor this football season.

The Cincinnati Bengals travel to Pittsburgh on the 2nd weekend of the NFL season. Each of the teams who are expected to compete for divisional superiority enters with first week victories. The outcome of this game will allow the winner the early inside track for the divisional title. Let’s first take a look at the recent history of the series.

These AFC North division powerhouses split the 2 games in the regular season last year with the Bengals winning on this field 16-10 before the Steelers triumphed in Cincinnati 33-20. That left the tie breaker to the NFL Playoffs, a game hosted by Cincinnati. The final result of an 18-16 Pittsburgh victory was more a function of the Bengals’ 4 TOs and bonehead penalties in the closing minutes than the fact that the Steelers outgained their rival 369-279 with a 167 to 91 overland edge.

If we take a look at other numbers that have historic relevance, we can note that Steelers’ QB Roethlisberger has a solid mark of 40-25 ATS in divisional play, including 18-8 ATS vs the Bengals. For Cincinnati, HC Lewis is on a recent run of 13-3 ATS as an underdog, while QB Dalton is 11-2 SU in the 13 most recent games he has both started and finished.

Game 1 results came in dichotomous ways. The Bengals faced a much more difficult test in a game with the Jets that opened at a PICK’EM price and closed with the Bengals as 1 ½ favorite. The 23-22 final showed just how close the game was. The scary part for the Bengals was that although they won the game, they were outrushed 30/152 to 19/57.

The running numbers for the Steelers in their MNF victory at Washington provide equal cause for this selection. Operating without RB Bell, who many feel is the premier back in the League, and without a pair of quality receivers in Wheaton and Bryant, the Steelers hung their hat on replacement RB Williams and the passing combo of Big Ben to Antonio Brown. The infantry dominated the line of scrimmage for the Steelers, with dominance of 30-147 to 12-55. But it is the ease of that victory that will make the Steelers a public choice this week on their home field.

Before you fall into that trap, note that the Steelers are just 2-12 ATS at home following an MNF victory, that Lewis and Dalton both possess outstanding numbers and that one cannot ignore playoff revenge from last season. I invite you to put the NFL ODDS in your favor and join me in my NFL PICK on the Cincinnati Bengals as the NFL UNDERDOG OF THE WEEK.
