The Saints opened as favorites by a field goal in the NFL odds and that is where it has stayed so far. They halted a four-game skid with a 24-17 loss in Tampa Bay to play spoiler to the Buccaneers, led by QB Drew Brees. He threw for 312 yards and two picks and regardless of what has happened this year with the Saints, Brees can hold his head high. The Lions fell 21-14 at St. Louis and they put up a good fight after a crushing Hail Mary loss at Green Bay in their previous game. Offensively, the Saints are fourth in yards for and 11th in points scored, but their defense has been abysmal, ranking 31st in yards allowed and last in points allowed. The Lions are 22nd in yards for and 23rd in points scored, but when QB Matt Stafford gets hot, the Lions can ride with the WR duo of Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. Their defense is 16th in yards allowed, but 28th in points allowed. This could be a very high-scoring affair between two teams that don't have much to play for.

Injuries
The Lions put TE Brandon Pettigrew on injured reserve for the rest of the season because of his knee. Detroit seems to be healthy going into this game, but they may be looking towards keeping everyone that way.

The Saints added two to their injured-reserve list, starting with RB Marcus Murphy, who has a high-ankle sprain. CB Damian Swann is gone for the season after suffering his third concussion, and that is something that needs to be watching throughout the offseason.

Trends
Detroit is 4-9 ATS on the season, going 2-4 ATS on the road, while the Saints are 6-6-1 ATS and 3-2-1 ATS at home. The total has increased from 50 to 51, and both teams have gone over seven times this season; New Orleans also has a push when it comes to totals.

The Saints are 6-4 SU and 7-3 ATS in 10 meetings with the Lions since 1993. They're also 3-4 SU and 4-2 ATS in seven home games with Detroit since 1980.
