After an eventful Week 13, there are two double-digit faves on the Week 14 NFL odds board: the Los Angeles Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Is all that chalk worth it?

Jason’s 2018-19 NFL picks record through Week 12: 6-12 ATS, 3-4 Totals

Well, that was quite a week of football, wasn’t it? We had crazy comebacks, amazing upsets, and one slightly unexpected dismissal of a head coach. After losing to the Arizona Cardinals (+13.5 away) on Sunday, the Green Bay Packers showed Mike McCarthy the door, ending his 13-year tenure under the headset at Lambeau Field. Godspeed, you green emperor.

No doubt the Packers will come out firing (ahem) when they host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14. They’re 6-point favorites on the NFL odds board at press time after opening at -5.5; the very early consensus shows a 56-percent lean towards Green Bay, but there isn’t enough data yet to produce the expanded report for Sunday’s matchup (1 p.m. ET; Fox). Definitely a game to keep an eye on, though.

Los Angeles Super Chargers

In the meantime, we’ve got two double-digit faves to consider fading. The Los Angeles Chargers are the biggest chalk on the board for Week 14; they opened as 14.5-point home faves for Sunday’s contest (4:05 p.m. ET; CBS) against the wounded Cincinnati Bengals, but the Chargers have already dipped back to -14. No consensus at all yet for this bad boy, although you can already guess where the early money is.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Here is the #Chargers false start TD #Steelers pic.twitter.com/Y8lvVrWwGV
— Steelers Depot (@Steelersdepot) December 3, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

The other big chalk for Week 14 is the team the Chargers came back to beat in Week 13. The Pittsburgh Steelers are available at -11.5 for Sunday’s road game (4:25 p.m. ET; Fox) versus the Oakland Raiders. Pittsburgh opened at -13 (+110), so there has been a little bit of movement with this line, but not much; the early consensus shows two-thirds of bettors on the Steelers. That should be a popular NFL pick this week after Pittsburgh coughed up a 23-7 halftime lead over L.A. and lost 33-30 as 3-point home faves.

The Song Remains the Same

Technically, there were two other double-digit faves when the Week 14 odds hit the board, but that was really just window dressing. The New Orleans Saints were -10 (+110) on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; now they’re -8. Same for the New England Patriots in their away game versus the Miami Dolphins. Again, not much of a line move in either of these early matinees.

The Saints, surprise surprise, have the biggest total on the board this week. Their game in Tampa opened at 57.5 points, but has settled down a bit to 57 at press time, with the early consensus split 50/50. At the other end of the spectrum, Thursday night’s AFC South matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans is down to 37 points after opening at 38, with 100-percent support for the "under." It might be the right play, although you never know – they could force overtime with a late run and spoil everything. Shop smart, and may the prolate spheroid be with you in Week 14.
