Thursday Night Recap
Oakland Raiders finally won a game this season. The Raiders stunned the Chiefs behind a last gasp drive to clinch the unlikely 24-20 win as the +290 SU underdogs and the 7-point home underdogs. The total also went above the 42-point total set across sportsbook platforms, marking the 8th OVER to cash on Thursday Night Football, first in three weeks. Overall, Thursday Night Football is 8-4 in over-under betting this season.
Week 12 proved to be a week for the home favourites on the NFL odds board with 12 of 15 games tipped in favour of hosts. Indianapolis proved the biggest home favourites to cash both SU and against the spread. Trading at a whopping -1000 (or thereabouts depending on your sportsbook of choice) and at 13.5-points the Colts came through for backers in a 23-3 win over the Jaguars.
Philadelphia Eagles bounced back from a loss last week with a convincing 43-24 win over Tennessee Titans, cashing as the 11-point home favourites and the convincing -700 SU favourites.
New England Patriots continued their dominating ways at the Foxboro, riding roughshod over the Detroit Lions 34-9, easily proving their merit as the -320 SU favourites and 6.5-point home chalk.
Seattle Seahawks dug their heels in to win 19-3 over the Cardinals, covering as the 7.5-point home chalk and the Chicago Bears eked out the 21-13 win over the Bucs as the 5.5-point home chalk.
Home Faves Fall Short Of The Mark
Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers both rallied to victories, coming through for NFL bettors on SU NFL picks but short against the spread. Broncos defeated the resilient Dolphins 39-36 to cash as the -290 home favourites (opened on -350 NFL odds) and the Niners outlasted the Redskins in a 19-13 win to cash as the -450 favourites. Broncos failed to cover as the 7-point favourites while the Niners failed to cover as the 9.5-point favourites. Finally, the Texans (-1-point home faves) succumbed to a 22-13 defeat to the Bengals.
Underdogs Punching Above Their Weight Class
Packers were one of a handful of road favourites in week 12 NFL betting that came through in a 24-21 win over the Vikings as the -500 SU NFL pick. Vikings, however, got the cover as the 9.5-point home underdog. Indeed, the Vikings proved one of the biggest underdogs on the NFL odds board to cash. Redskins deserve a mention here as well as the 9.5-point road chalk to cover at the expense of the Niners in a 19-13 loss.
Rams continue to punch above their weight class with yet another cover against a solid team. In a 27-24 loss the Rams covered as the 4.5-point road chalk. Finally, the Giants opened as the 3-point home pups but were bet up to 5-points at closing doors at most sports betting exchanges. The narrow 31-28 win by the Cowboys (-170 SU) saw the Giants cover on Sunday Night.
The UNDER edged OVER 6-7 through 13 games. Usual suspects Broncos and Eagles came through for OVER bettors, the only exception being the Patriots and Packers. Patriots came just under the 48-point total in their 34-9 win over the Lions, ending a seven-game OVER streak. While top OVER performers Packers slipped to 9-2 in over-under betting in a 24-21 win that came just a few points shy of the 48.5-point total. It was their first UNDER in eight games.
Broncos and Dolphins served up the highest scoring affair in their 75-point shootout at Mile High. Eagles came up with the second highest scoring affair in their 67-point extravaganza with the Titans. The lowest tally was the 21-point affair between Seattle and Arizona.
