Early numbers are a double-edged sword. If you’re sharp it can mean the difference between winning and losing. If you’re a square and pluck a bad number that gets better as the week progresses, it can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

1:00 PM ET Bengals vs. Titans

Last week we wrote about the NFL odds moving early and often on the Jacksonville Jaguars over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Jags opened as 3 ½ point home favorites but that number ballooned to six at kickoff. Perhaps it was public money swamping the sportsbooks or sharps who started the deluge and the momentum was later picked up by the squares who spiked that number even higher. Ultimately, the line you got made little difference as anyone who backed the Jags in their NFL picks came out a winner as Jacksonville cruised to a 23-7 victory.

This week looks like more of the same, as the money is pouring in on the Titans and bettors are fading the Bengals once again. Tennessee opened as 3 ½ point home chalk, and that number currently sits as of this early Tuesday morning writing, at -5 in most online sportsbooks. If you tend to agree that history will repeat itself then get the best number available, as 4 ½‘s can be found at Bookmaker, Intertops, and BetDSI.

1:00 PM ET Browns vs. Lions

The Lions are coming off a solid road win at Lambeau Field as they controlled the tempo and pace of the game en route to a 30-17 win over the Packers. Not all online sportsbooks are dealing this game so shortly after it happened but the line has already shifted from Lions -9 ½ to -10 ½ at 5Dimes and others. However, books like BetOnline are holding fast with the opening number and waiting for the public to swamp them with chalky money before they ultimately bump the number up.

If you like fading the Browns and backing the Cats, then don’t wait because 9 ½ is a critical number in those games decided by 10. But if you believe Cleveland may have value off of a bye week, coupled with Detroit’s short week, then hold steady because it looks like this number will continue to rise as the public loves a big home favorite.

Monday Night: Dolphins vs. Panthers

Of all the games on the Week 10 NFL slate, this line has moved the most as of Tuesday morning. Carolina opened as 7 ½ point home chalk but that number is long gone and impossible to find as the Panthers are now being offered as high as -10 at 5Dimes and Island Casino. Most of the other books are dealing Carolina as nine-point favorites but that’s still 1 ½ points higher than the opener.

Apparently, the Panthers’ two-game win streak coupled with the Dolphins’ two-game losing skein is causing the chasm to widen. Keep your eyes peeled for this game as well as all the others and monitor what all the major online sportsbooks are dealing at SBR odds.
