Another NFL football season is upon us on to the delight of many! Read on as we analyse who the false favorites and top dogs are for week 1 to get your NFL picks ready.

Top Dog - Detroit Ready for Indy
There is no doubt Detroit is not going to just replace Calvin Johnson and have a better passing attack. However, I think the Lions enter 2016 a little underrated. Detroit's season win total is 7 at A+ rated Heritage, but they are coming off 6-2 SU and ATS finish to the year and one loss was on Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary heave.

Indianapolis gets Andrew Luck back, but he has something to prove and any insider information on the Colts has them merely as average on both lines and several other positions. With the latest NFL betting odds having Detroit at +4, a Lions victory would not be a stunner for my money.

Top Dog - Miami Cashes as Massive Underdog in Coffee Town
Miami is picked last in the AFC East, has a brand new coach and travels cross-country to face legitimate Super Bowl contender, what could go wrong here?

Everyone of those factors is true and would seem to be a negative for the Dolphins, but getting +10.5 points is an attention-getter to start the season. Seattle is not set in the offensive line and while it is not known if Miami will be that stout up front on defense, the Seahawks advantage is not overwhelming.

Any time you have the opportunity to possibly capture double digits in the NFL, you have to look closely, especially on a team like the Fish who are 26-13-2 ATS the last decade as non-division road underdogs.

False Favorite - Los Angeles Stumbles Against Rival Frisco
The Rams are making the shorter trip up the coast to Santa Clara instead of coming to St. Louis. While this is exciting for longtime Rams fans from Los Angeles, the fact remains Case Keenum is the starting quarterback, the secondary is beatable and beat writers have generously described the special teams as a "mess".

I am not suggesting San Francisco should be a home favorite but if you take the sportsbooks numbers at face value, are the Rams at -2.5, really 5.5 points better than the 49ers on a neutral? With the Niners 10-1 ATS in last 11 Monday night assignments, L.A. is a false favorite for your free NFL picks.
