Washington Redskins are a team in rebuild mode, leading to conservative expectations on the NFL 2014-2015 season in sports betting circles. Projecting exactly what that looks like is the challenge. Here’s our best guess for the Redskins’ win total on the regular season.

Redskins to Finish Bottom Again
Washington Redskins finished bottom of the NFC East last season with a 3-13 mark, comprised of an abysmal 2-6-0 record at home and a 1-7-0 record on the road. The Redskins couldn’t buy a win even if they tried. Week to week was cringing for Redskins fans, watching their side struggle something huge towards the third-worst point differential (-144) in the league. Odds makers set the Redskins' betting pick for the season win total ambitiously at 7.5, but with the Under favoured at -135 it would seem scratching that mark isn’t a realistic option. Not exactly an endorsement of Redskins on the season, is it?

Week 1 @ Houston Texans
Houston Texans are coming off an abysmal season, even worse than Redskins season with a 2-14 mark, which makes it hard to determine what NFL bettors should expect in this matchup. The season prior, they were top of the AFC South with a 12-4 mark and odds makers seem to expect Houston to bounce back to such form, as they match the Over 7.5 at confident -160 NFL odds. This is going to be a tough game for RGIII on the road.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 2 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars are flush off a 4-12 deposit on the 2013-2014 NFL season. The bad news: odds makers set the bar low for this term as well. The quarterback situation is still unknown and defense is uncertain. On paper, Redskins look better and, as such, we have to give it to the hosts.
NFL Pick: Win

Week 3 @ Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles trounced the Redskins last term, sweeping the two-game series convincingly. RGIII and Company have something to prove here, but this isn’t an easy matchup for the Redskins on the road. Expect much of the same woes this time around.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 4 vs. New York Giants
Eli Manning is coming off a forgettable season. Offseason restocking however indicates an improved secondary and offense, both of which could trouble the Redskins at home.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 5 vs. Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks defense should be the deciding factor in this matchup. They’ll have a field day pressuring RGIII and causing him all sorts of problems. Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch and the rest of the Hawks frontline should have no problem running away with this game.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 6 @ Arizona Cardinals
This is going to be a tough matchup for the Redskins, not just because Arizona Cardinals loom dangerous but also because it’s a short week with the Redskins taking on the Cardinals on the road just six days after hosting the defending champions Seattle Seahawks. If the Hawks fly the coop, leaving the Redskins reeling, it’s hard to imagine they’d be able to muster up enough effort for a Cardinals that is strong defensively and has undergone some positive improvements in the offseason.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 7 vs. Tennessee Titans
The Titans went 7-9 last year, which included a modest 4-4 road record. This could be one of those rare duds the Redskins can’t seem to avoid from season to season of late. That said, on paper, they really should win this game, especially if Jake Locker (coming off a hip injury) is not 100%.
NFL Pick: Win

Week 8 @ Dallas Cowboys
If all goes to plan, the Cowboys defense should have its hands full with an improved Redskins offense. What’s more, Tony Romo is coming off two back surgeries in as many seasons, so even though Redskins’ defense isn’t exactly formidable, Romo might struggle regardless. This leads us to believe Redskins could runaway with a close road win.
NFL Pick: Win

Week 9 @ Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings were just as disappointing as the Redskins were last season. There are many questions still up in the air where the Vikings are concerned, namely their QB situation. Thus, it’s tough to call which way this matchup will go. It’s a bit of a tossup, really. The deciding factor to consider: Redskin offense and Vikings poor pass defense, which points to a road win potentially on the cards here.
NFL Pick: Win

Week 10  -  Bye
The Redskins go into the Bye week 4-5 on the season, looking to make a push down the stretch. But the schedule gets tougher from here on. Keep in mind, Washington Redskins came off an early Bye week last year to win just two out of twelve games.

Week 11 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers are a totally revamped side, from coaching to quarterback to defense. What to expect from them is hard to say at this point in time. But, we have a sneaky suspicion they could surprise. They have plenty of quality and talent and could set up an interesting clash against the Redskins.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 12 @ San Francisco 49ers
Washington Redskins travel to San Francisco for an inevitable beat down. Last season, the 49ers decimated the Redskin 27-6 in November. Expect much of the same as the superior Niners redline their Super Bowl credentials.

NFL Pick: Loss

Week 13 @ Indianapolis Colts
With heads still spinning from their cross-country trek to California, a clash with Andrew Luck and Company is hardly ideal. Redskins defense will have all to do to slow down Luck and his receivers.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 14 vs. St. Louis Rams
The Rams loom tricky in this matchup. Last season, they topped more than 50 sacks – one of three teams to reach the impressive mark. RGIII, who was one of the most harassed quarterbacks last season, will need to be nimble-footed here if he’s to carry the Redskins to a narrow victory.
NFL Pick: Win

Week 15 @ New York Giants
Giants swept the series last season, and so they should this season. On paper, they are far superior to the Redskins. Granted they are coming off an unmemorable season, but things are expected to get back on track this term. Home edge plus Eli Manning at the helm against a so-so Redskin secondary should prove the difference.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 16 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
If Philadelphia Eagles pick up from where they left off last season, by this time they should be well inside the playoff picture, fighting for top spot in NFC East. In such a case, it’s their game to win. Redskins will be hard pressed to slow down Nick Foles, especially if he plays lights out ball as he did last season.
NFL Pick: Loss

Week 17 vs. Dallas Cowboys
Redskins have an opportunity to close the season with a belated win here. Overwhelming consensus has Dallas taking a step back this season. Defense is a huge issue where the Cowboys are concerned and RGIII, if he’s healthy up to this point, should be able to exploit those openings.
NFL Pick: Win

NFL Betting Verdict
Diehard Redskin fans aren’t going to enjoy our win total verdict for the Redskins this season, but we could be wrong. We’re not claiming this is the gospel of NFL picks, so take it with appropriate reservation. In any event, we’re predicting the Redskins come away with a 6-10 season, thus we firmly advise you make the under the 7.5 projected win total line at -135 odds your NFL Futures betting pick. Feel free to agree or disagree.
