In a league lacking deep quarterback talent, the Vikings might look to protect their injury prone QB this weekend. As we await the decision, let's project where the Vikings-Buccaneers Week 3 line might open.

We are halfway through Week 3 in the NFL season and the Viking's indecision to name a starter has us all guessing. Last week the Vikings made a game-time decision to scratch Sam Bradford and name Case Keenum as their Week 2 starter. Bradford has had a history of having serious knee injuries, and Head Coach Mike Zimmer took the safe approach by sitting his starting QB against an impressive Steelers defensive line, that had 7 sacks week 1.

Last week's spread opened at Minnesota +5.5 and was bet down to +4 the night before the game. The spread jumped to a +9 Sunday morning as it was announced that Bradford would not be making the start. This 5-point difference swing took place largely in part to the respect to the defensive efforts the Vikings put up against the Saints in Week 1. Oddsmakers expected the Vikes' defense to hold  Pittsburgh Offense that barely squeaked by the Browns in week 1, but in all honesty, this line should have been moved up to 10 when Bradford was announced as being ruled out, but that is the past.

Looking forward to this week, If Bradford is announced as the Vikings QB, I can see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, favored by -1.5 to -2.5 with the over and under set in the 42.5 to 43 point range. Many bettors will be leaning Tampa Bay in this situation, as Bradford cannot be trusted to actually finish the game. But if Bradford is ruled out Sunday morning I can see Bucs being favored by -7 and the over and under dropping to about 39 points.

There is no question Vikings are going to need Sam Bradford to beat this new look Buccaneers team. Even if he does start, given the way Zimmerman is clearly looking to protect his QB in a league that lacks much talent at that position, how certain are you that Bradford would even finish the game?

We are predicting that this line opens with Tampa Bay -7 and the over and under 39 by Sunday morning.

Check back, and we will keep you updated with any developments as they are made public.
