Looking to bet on this Saturday’s Vikings at Packers NFC North matchup? You won’t see a line on that one until after Falcons-Bucs on Monday night.
You know how SBR's top-rated sportsbooks won’t post a line on a late-season baseball game if it’s possible a team can clinch a playoff berth the night before? The books know if that happens, the clinching team isn’t going to give two s***s about the next game because of all the celebrating.
We have a similar-type scenario for this Saturday night’s NFC North matchup between the Vikings and Packers at Lambeau Field, which hasn't been lined yet. Minnesota (11-3) has clinched the division but still has a first-round bye to play for. The Vikings would be the NFC’s No. 2 seed in the postseason as things stand. Minnesota isn’t likely to catch Philly for the top seed but could be caught itself by either New Orleans, Carolina or the LA Rams.
It’s Green Bay’s motivation that is up in the air. The Packers (7-7) will be eliminated from wild-card contention if the Atlanta Falcons beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night to close Week 15. If that happens, the Packers have no reason to play Aaron Rodgers in the final two games as he’s still not 100 percent healthy from his broken collarbone. Rodgers returned Sunday in a crushing loss in Carolina and was a bit rusty with three picks but also had three TDs. He admitted he wouldn’t have been playing if Green Bay was out of the playoff chase.
Expect Brett Hundley vs. Minnesota if Atlanta wins in Tampa. The Vikings certainly would appreciate not having to face Rodgers and would be solidly favored on the NFL odds.
