Week 4 of the NFL season comes to a close this Monday night with an inter-conference matchup between the Washington Redskins and the Kansas City Chiefs. Kickoff from Arrowhead Stadium is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) on ESPN. The Chiefs are just one of two undefeated teams heading into this week’s NFL betting action.

Washington at Kansas City Game Overview

This will be the Redskins’ second-straight game against a team from the AFC West following last Sunday night’s stunning 27-10 upset over Oakland as 3.5-point home underdogs. They are now 2-1 on the year both straight-up and against the spread following a loss at home to Philadelphia in Week 1 and a seven-point road win against the Los Angeles Rams the following week as three-point underdogs. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in all three games.

One of the main reasons for last Sunday’s victory was a highly impressive performance by Kirk Cousins. He ended the night with 365 passing yards and three touchdown throws while completing 25 of his 30 attempts. The Redskins are a bit depleted at the running back position due to injuries, but Chris Thompson has stepped up his game as the team’s leading rusher and receiver. You also have to credit Washington’s defense for last week’s win after holding Oakland to just 128 yards of total offense.

Kanas City has been the NFL’s most complete team through the first three weeks in its perfect 3-0 start both SU and ATS. It all started with a shocking 42-27 rout of New England on the road as an eight-point underdog. The Chiefs outlasted Philadelphia at home in a seven-point win as 4.5-point favorites and last Sunday they rolled over the Los Angeles Chargers 24-10 as three-point favorites on the road. The total stayed UNDER 47 points in that win after going OVER in their first two games.

Behind a veteran quarterback in Alex Smith and a punishing rushing attack that is averaging 162 yards per game, Kansas City comes into Monday night’s matchup ranked third in the NFL in both total yards and scoring. Smith has completed a highly efficient 77.4 percent of his 84 passing attempts for 774 yards and seven touchdowns against zero interceptions. Rookie running back Kareem Hunt has anchored the ground game with 401 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 47 carries. The Chiefs’ defense has done its part as the seventh-ranked unit in the league in points allowed.

Washington at Kansas City Game Betting Trends

--The Redskins are a highly profitable 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games on the road and they have covered in seven of their last eight games against a team with a SU winning record. The total has gone OVER in their last six road games.

--The Chiefs have failed to cover the spread in nine of their last 13 home games, but they have gone 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a SU win. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last seven Monday night games.

--The favorite in this inter-conference clash has covered ATS in four of the last five meetings and the total has gone OVER in four of the last six meetings.

Washington at Kansas City Free NFL Pick

Washington has the ability to hang with the Chiefs all night long in what should be a highly entertaining game that could easily go OVER the already inflated total line. I still think the best NFL pick in this game is Kansas City on SBR Odds’ current spread given it overall edge against the Redskins as the most balanced team in the NFL.
