Not being much of totals bettor in football because of time constraints, I would like thank the SBR schedule-makers for assigning me to write about totals this season because I'm rolling.

What this has allowed me to do is to dig into games during my regular working hours (not off hours that I use for handicapping) and come up with answers for you as readers here, and to this point of the NFL season I am 15-6 (71.4 percent) making NFL picks on totals. This has also helped me make more money and helped my business. If you consider all fronts, this is a Win-Win-Win. Thanks SBR and to those reading.

As I have said many times before, this is the NFL and things can get messy in a hurry like Papa John's blaming the NFL for sinking sales. Every week does not work against the NFL odds, thus, you take your best shot and have at it.

Points Could Be Scarce in Rams-Giants

When looking at the elements of this NFC contest, three of the four favor a lower score. It starts with a depleted New York Giants offense, which has lost most of its starting wide receivers, leaving a 37-year-old and declining Eli Manning to have to trust players who are not as skilled. In turn, the Giants offense is averaging 16 points a game. Defensively, both teams are pretty solid with Los Angeles permitting 19.7 PPG and New York at 22.3 PPG. The only outlier piece to the puzzle is the Rams scoring 30.7 PPG. Nevertheless, my numbers come up to 40 points for an outcome, which places me on the UNDER.

Going High in AFC Encounter

With the news Baltimore's Joe Flacco is going to play, Tennessee was installed as 4-point home favorite with a total of 43. The Ravens come into this game on a string of four straight OVERS. Their defense was supposed to be the strong suit of the team, and while they have a pair of shutouts they have allowed 24.6 PPG in the six other outings and are 7-0 OVER on the road after a home game. Tennessee is coming off a bye week after squeaking by Cleveland 12-9 in OT and is 18-6 OVER after scoring and allowing 14 points or fewer points.

Follow the Numbers in Charlotte

The divisional race in the NFC South starts to heat up with a pair of confrontations. My attention has been drawn to Atlanta at Carolina. By now we have come to accept the Falcons offense is not going to be the same as last year's juggernaut, currently averaging only 21.9 PPG. We did expect more from the Panthers on offense and defense this season, and while Carolina's defensive troops have done the job in permitting only 17.7 PPG, Cam Newton and friends are only at 18.5 PPG. This has me leaning towards an UNDER, and when I uncovered these rivals are 16-5 UNDER when Carolina is the home team that settled it for me!
