Week 1 is in the books and we can start to develop a profile on the various teams to make us smarter for NFL betting in the weeks ahead. Nothing is easy on this platform and more knowledge only helps.

Concerning totals, the UNDER was 10-5 for Week 1 and that made sense with so little continuity anymore coming from the preseason, with all teams looking to protect their star players and not expose them to injury. The game repetition will help all teams and chances are the offenses will start to be more fluid after seeing six teams fail to reach double digits.

Here are three NFL picks on totals that caught our eye.

With Patriots and Saints Offenses and Defenses, Expect a Bushel of Points

The early NFL odds had a total of 54.5 points on this nonconference clash and based on what we witnessed, this could go higher. Tom Brady and Drew Brees had continuity issues in season opener and with their coaching staff's, those are expected to be worked out and we will see more fluid offenses. Another factor why the offenses should be better is both defenses were horrible in Game 1 and most of the problems witnessed are not solvable from one game to the next, as they involve familiarity and understanding were to be on the field. Good chance this outcome will be 60 points or higher.

Chicago and Tampa Bay in Lower Scoring Affair

The total has been released at 43 and with Tampa Bay still waiting to start the season, they like many others might not be in sync to begin their year. Also, the Buccaneers figure to be at a disadvantage with Chicago having a game under their belts and being able to work on what they wanted to accomplish on defense. It was given the Bears were not going to be a prolific offensive squad and with their two best wide receivers now gone, that further limits how many trips they will make into the end zone. Besides, in the first two games of the season, the Buccaneers are 36-13 UNDER, with average score 35.8 total points.

San Francisco Will Struggle to Score in Seattle

The 49ers faced a veteran defense in Carolina and managed to tally one field goal. Now they have to travel up the coast to Seattle and the Seahawks defense is far more imposing than the Panthers. San Fran's Brian Hoyer is journeyman quarterback and he does not have much talent around him to help him out. With this, little reason to believe the Niners will score much against the Seahawks. Seattle's reported "improved" offensive line was fake news and they are still sorting out blocking schemes which could curtail their point potential. With a total of 43, the UNDER is my choice with Seattle a 28-13 winner.
