Sunday’s NFL Preseason slate features two standout games between the Chargers/Niners & the Bengals/Cardinals. Find out where we feel the value NFL picks are on these two games set to wrap up week 3 of Preseason betting.

Chargers (1-1, 0-1 away) vs. Niners (0-2, 0-1 home)
SU Betting Odds: Chargers +215 at Niners -260
NFL Line: Chargers +6.0 at Niners -6.0; totals 42.0

Analysis: Niners need to get their act together fast if they are to be taken seriously as one of the season’s top Super bowl contenders. Niners have been terrifying on both sides of the ball and Colin Kaepernick has been wholly off colour and off form when he’s seen playing time. Two straight beat downs and only a field goal to show for their combined efforts is hardly a ringing endorsement.  With concerns growing as the NFL season fast approaches, it’s somewhat surprising to have the Niners favoured so wholeheartedly to both win straight up at -260 and as the 6.0 favourites on the spread. Keep in mind this is a team that has yet to score a touchdown in preseason and last week Peyton Manning exposed more holes in their defense than Swiss cheese.

Chargers are still reeling from their own 41-14 beat down last week against the Seattle Seahawks. That being said Philip Rivers played just one series against the Hawks, stepping aside for Kellen Clemens. Against the Niners, Rivers is sure to see more playing time than he’s done up to this point. Unlike the Niners, Chargers have a win in the preseason bank behind a solid 27-7 opener against the Dallas Cowboys. They still need to show significant improvement for the upcoming season.

Now, there’s no need to get one’s knickers in a twist over the preseason results. Not especially when most starters are seeing limited play and those that are walking wounded are riding the bench rather than risk further injury in games that don’t matter in the broad spectrum of the NFL season. Still the Niners shouldn’t be immune to criticism, having raised more questions than answers in the preseason (the same goes for the Chargers). Most importantly, the Niners answer the questions in the end zone by scoring a touchdown at least.

Bengals (0-2, 0-1 away) vs. Cardinals (1-1, 1-0 home)
SU Betting Odds: Bengals +120 at Cardinals -140
NFL Line: Chargers +2.5 at Cardinals -2.5; totals 43.0

NFL Betting Verdict: Andy Dalton inks a multi-million dollar contract and wouldn’t you know, he goes 8-of-8 for 144 yards and a touchdown against the Jets, emerging with a perfect passer rating. A measure of vindication for Dalton perhaps after critics of the deal scrupulously aired their negative opinions, of which the worst was that the he was no more than an overpriced, superfluous centre.

It’s going to be up to Dalton to prove whether he’s worth the money Bengals shelled out, the first opportunity of which will come against the Cardinals as Dalton is sure to see some serious playing time. Taking some of the pressure off of Dalton is the current state of Cardinals’ defense, which is in shambles following key injuries, suspensions and free agency. If Dalton is nearly as good as he was last week against the Jets, the Bengals should romp the Cardinals big time.
