It’s another week of the NFL tonight, and while I may be partially distracted by the NBA games that are now going on Thursday night as well, TNF is still going to hold good NFL odds. Here are some of my favorite prop NFL picks, courtesy of bet365 sportsbook.
Kelvin Benjamin O/U 77.5 receiving yards
The young rookie for the Panthers is having his ups and downs this season, but overall you can tell that Kelvin Benjamin is a special talent. Tonight on a short week, against one of the worst defenses in the NFL, Benjamin has a receiving yards total of 77 ½ from bet365 sportsbook, and these NFL Odds are quite low for who they are playing.
The Saints are giving up the 5th most receiving yards to WRs this year, and they are ranked 30th in the NFL in how many yards after the catch they give up. If you’ve seen Benjamin run, you know he’s very capable of slipping a defender, or shedding a tackle. Last week he had only four catches but he had 94 yards with those receptions, including over a 50-yard bomb. All of this was against a regressing, but still very good Seattle secondary.
Look for him to tear up the Saints on short rest, making the over the first of our free NFL picks in this matchup.
My Pick: Kelvin Benjamin OVER 77.5 receiving yards (-115)
Cam Newton TD Scored
Obviously I’m going fishing for a payday with a Cam Newton rushing touchdown, but at the NFL Odds of +170 from bet365, it’s not a bad play to consider. Newton has amped up the rushing for the Panthers with all of the running back injuries they’ve had over the last four weeks. Even though Jonathon Stewart is healthy and DeAngelo Williams will be returning tonight, Newton is still the team’s most talented rusher. Even though he has only one rushing touchdown this season, he has been running the ball more with Williams and Stewart out.
Newton has rushed the ball 36 times in his last three games, and even with the two aforementioned running backs healthy tonight, Newton will still get several chances at scoring on the red zone against the Saints’ defense. In his six career games against the Saints, he has scored twice, and has rushed the ball 43 times for 218 yards. That’s just over five yards per carry. New Orleans has also given up one rushing touchdown to a quarter back this season, which is actually tied for 6th most.
My Pick: Newton TD Scored (+170)
Team to score first
Carolina is a +3 home underdog in the NFL Odds against the Saints on a short week, and although that’s not much, they do have some upside trending well in their favor. The Panthers have scored first in every single game except one; the blowout against the Packers two weeks ago. However even though they have lost three of the games they have scored first in, if they can get on the board early in this one, it would net a nice -110 NFL Odds payout. The Saints are only 4-3 scoring first this season, and even in last week’s impressive win against the Packers, the Saints did not strike first in that game. I see the Panthers controlling the clock at home, and keeping Drew Brees off the field. This will lead to the Panthers having a better chance of scoring first at home tonight. A lot might depend on the coin flip, because if Thursday Night Football has taught us anything this season, it’s that defenses are likely not going to play well.
My Pick: Panthers score first (-110)
