By the time Super Bowl LII between Philadelphia and New England gets ready to kick off on Feb. 4, there will be hundreds of betting props on which to wager. Here are a couple to ponder for your Super Bowl picks.

Super Bowl LII: Betting Props

The good news for bettors this week is the betting value in a few of the early props at different offshore sportsbooks taking action online from U.S. players.

First-Half Betting Lines

The Patriots opened as 5.5-point favorites to win Super Bowl LII, and the betting line for the total was set at 48 on the NFL odds board. One of the most basic early Super Bowl props is the betting odds for the first half. Right now you can get the extra half-point on Philadelphia at +3 with the total cut in half at 24.

Betting this prop depends on how you see this matchup playing out. New England beat Tennessee 35-14 as 9.5-point home favorites in the Divisional Round, and the halftime score was 21-7. The total for that game went over 48 points. In Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against Jacksonville, the Patriots closed as 8-point favorites with the total set at 45.5. They failed to cover in a tight 24-20 win and the total stayed under. New England actually trailed at the half 14-10.

Philadelphia closed as a 2.5-point home underdog in its 15-10 victory against Atlanta in the Divisional Round, and the total stayed well under the closing 40.5-point line. The score at the half was 10-9 in favor of the Falcons. In the NFC Championship Game against Minnesota, the Eagles rolled to a 38-7 victory as three-point underdogs at home, with the total going over 39 points. They led by 17 points at the half, so Philadelphia would have been a winning play on the halftime lines in both games.

New England has made a habit of falling behind early in postseason games, including last year’s Super Bowl when it spotted the Falcons a 21-3 lead at the half. Everyone remembers the incredible comeback to pull off an amazing 34-28 victory in overtime, with the Patriots covering as three-point favorites.

I do believe this year’s Super Bowl will stay close deep into the fourth quarter. While I am not confident the Eagles can cover the 5.5 points for the game, with my Super Bowl picks I will take the three points and bet that they cover for the first half.

First Score is a Touchdown

The first score in the Super Bowl is usually one of the first props to appear on the board, and it tends to favor a touchdown as opposed to a field goal or safety. The odds for this year’s prop are set at -150 for a touchdown and +130 for a field goal or safety.

The Patriots took an early 3-0 lead against Jacksonville on Stephen Gostkowski's 31-yard field goal at the 9:21 mark of the first quarter. Against Tennessee, the Patriots trailed 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Philadelphia gave up its only points of the game against Minnesota when the Vikings scored a touchdown with about 10 minutes left in the first quarter. The first score in the Eagles’ win against the Falcons was an Atlanta field goal in the first quarter.

I think the odds between a touchdown or a field goal are much closer than the betting odds for this prop, so I will take the much better value at +130 that the first score in Super Bowl LII will be something other than a touchdown.
