Happy Holidays to all of those celebrating out there on the Internet! With three games on the NFL slate for this afternoon, it’s a great chance to parlay together two NFL Picks from today’s games.
Panthers vs. Cowboys
Tony Romo is back and has the Cowboys in the hunt, but on the short week against the Panthers this week, the NFL Odds have the Cowboys as -1 favorites, with a total of 44. While Carolina comes in trying to stay undefeated, the Cowboys are simply trying to salvage their season in any way possible, and a win today would go a long way in doing it. They will have the benefit of knowing he Eagles’ outcome as they play earlier in the day against the Lions, and if Philly loses again, the Cowboys could move up in the standings. However, the Panthers’ defense has been very strong this season, and even with Romo back, I doubt the Cowboys can best it.
On the other side, the sportsbooks seem to be overvaluing the Dallas defense against this surprisingly good Panthers offense. Dallas has been one of the worst run defenses in the NFL this season, and it isn’t just because teams have been leading against them and running out the clock. Jonathon Stewart is having a career year, and against this Dallas front I see the Panthers taking over in this one and controlling the time of possession. Carolina is 8-2 ATS this season and doing it all while averaging close to 30 points per game. Combine that with Dallas going 1-5 ATS in their last six games, and I’m taking the +1 or the moneyline on Carolina.
Bears vs. Packers
The final game of the evening is the Bears heading into Green Bay for their second matchup against the Packers this season, and the NFL Odds have the Bears as +8 ½ underdogs with a total of 45 points. While I think the total could have some value as well, on the short week you’re asking for trouble betting totals in anything other than a teaser. For the parlay though, the Bears seem like a great value after going up from +7 dogs to +8 ½. While I think the Packers could once again dominate this game, the Bears have been a very capable team this season on offense. With Matt Forte and Alshon Jeffrey back for the Bears, Chicago presents some problems for the Packers defensively.
While Aaron Rodgers has dominated the Bears in the past, this year is a little different for the Packers. They have been hurt by injury and inconsistency from almost everyone not named Rodgers, and with some questionable home passing defense numbers, I could easily see the Bears and Jay Cutler staying with the Packers blow for blow here, and covering the spread. Some of the score generators I look at to help me make my NFL Picks even have the Bears losing by only four or five points in this one, so eight and a half is way too much for the Bears. Take the points once again and parlay the two underdogs in the later games for some extra holiday shopping money.
