Swinger’s top two NFL picks cashed last week as the Eagles destroyed the Cardinals and the Chargers defeated the Giants outright as 3½-point road dogs. Let’s see what SJ has in store for Week 6 of the NFL season.

Swinger’s 2017 NFL Record (7-7-0, +3.80 Units)

The Eagles crushed the Cards and the Bolts beat Big Blue as 3 ½-point road hounds. I had each for four and three units respectively which proved more than enough to take the sting off a one-unit play on the Tennessee Titans, as they crashed and burned in a 16-10 snoozer to the Dolphins. Let’s take a look at my top three NFL picks for Week 6 and keep cashing those tickets!

Lions (+4 ½) vs. Saints

New Orleans has improved on the defensive side of the ball this season but is still not formidable by any means. The Lions and Matthew Stafford have the weapons to exploit a mediocre Saints’ defense while Detroit’s defensive line should bring the heat up the middle forcing Brees to flee the pocket and pass on the run. Let’s not forget that these Lions could be 5-0 because both losses came by a combined seven points while their three wins were all easy covers. Getting 4 ½ points in this spot is about 2 ½ points more than I thought we would get and I just love the value here as this road dog could easily win this one outright.

49’ers vs. Redskins (-11)

The Skins should be well-rested after their bye week while the 49’ers are mired in a winless season that will continue at least into Week 7 of the season. Although Washington is no juggernaut they have had a rough early schedule with wins over the Rams and Raiders while losing to the high-flying Eagles and, as of this writing, the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. This is a cross-country trip for the visitors and it is indeed their third consecutive game away from home. Josh Norman will be out for this game with fractured ribs and he is the cornerstone of this Washington secondary but the Niners are not what you would term an “explosive” offense. Brian Hoyer looked brilliant in the fourth quarter against the Colts but we have seen Hoyer throughout his career and he has proven to be no more than a serviceable NFL quarterback. Expect a return to the mean for San Francisco’s signal-caller, particularly against a talented defensive line like Washington’s. I would have liked to get this number at 10 but we will still make a smallish play on the chalky home favorites at the current line.

Bucs (Pick) vs. Cardinals

If you’ve been impressed with the Cardinals, raise your hand. Only the most hardcore, blind as a bat, Arizona homegrown football junkie bleeding red and white would deign to lift even a digit. Even worse, if you’ve been chasing your tail and actually putting your hard-earned dinero on the Redbirds, you’re not only incensed but broke as well. The Cardinals are 2-3 straight up but a catastrophic 0-5 ATS as they enter Week 6 of the 2017 campaign. Carson Palmer has seen the hands of time ticking rapidly on his career this season but in fairness, his offensive line has lived up to its name and has been nothing short of offensive this season.

The Bucs should get a few ailing defensive starters back in uniform which will be added pressure to an already harried Carson Palmer. Tampa Bay’s Jameis Winston is coming of age and has added another serious aerial weapon in DeSean Jackson this season to complement All-World wideout Mike Evans with a healthy Doug Martin in the backfield. The only thing the Cards have going for them is the venue but that’s not nearly enough to tilt this matchup in their favor.

The Woodman’s Corner (3-2, +0.8 Units)

The Woodman has now hit 60 percent of his wagers this season after a savvy call on the Jaguars/Steelers game last week. The veteran capper grabbed Jacksonville +8 ½ and it turns out he didn’t need a one after the Jags stunned the Steelers 30-9 in a game where Jags’ backers never broke a sweat as to whether their wager would cash.

This week the Woodman likes what the NFL odds makers are offering on the Miami Dolphins. As you may know, the Fish claimed a 16-10 home victory over the Titans last week and are now getting 13 points as they take to the highway and battle the Falcons. This line has skyrocketed from the opener that saw Atlanta -9 to where it sits now at 13, which looks like good value to the Woodman. I am always incredibly leery of going against the steam and scooping a great number on a game that I would ordinarily pass. However, the Woodman has no such fear and is hoping the fish are biting in Hot-lanta.
