From team totals and winning margins to touchdown props, we have a lowdown on the best team prop bets to pursue for the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals ahead of the 2022 Super Bowl.

The wild NFL betting season that was is set to culminate Sunday evening with Super Bowl LVI. The 56th edition of the Big Game is guaranteed to provide us with a fresh champion as the Rams face the Bengals. While the former last lifted the Lombardi Trophy over two decades ago, the latter has never won the Super Bowl in franchise history.

Over $7.5 billion is expected to be wagered on this year’s Super Bowl. While the options for bettors to choose from are endless, the team props market is always popular. As always, there are several intriguing angles, including Super Bowl team props from which to choose.

Here are the top team prop bets for the 2022 Super Bowl (odds via BetMGM; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

What are Team Prop Bets and Why Bet Them?

Just like player prop bets focus on the performances of specific players within a game, team prop bets are centered on the collective efforts of the team in question.

While some team props correlate directly to the final score of the game itself, others might see their outcome determined entirely within the game itself. Thus, the final score does not necessarily have a direct bearing on all Super Bowl team prop picks.

Some common examples of team prop bets include the total points scored by each individual team, the margin of victory or defeat, total touchdowns scored, total field goals kicked, and even punts and coaching challenges.

Best Rams vs. Bengals Super Bowl Team Scoring Props

Outcome of first drive: Punt (-110) ????

Both the Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and Bengals QB Joe Burrow will be playing in their first Super Bowl. Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor will also be making his first head coaching appearance in the Big Game. Thus, it seems reasonable to anticipate some conservative play-calling from both sides out of the gates.

While the first few series are always scripted out and practiced in advance, both defenses will be freshest to start the game as well. Look for a slow start to this game for both offenses.

Bettors should note that in addition to betting the first drive of the game to result in a punt, the team props for either the Bengals' or Rams' first drive to result in a punt also carry -110 odds.

First scoring play: Rams field goal (+350) ???

The Bengals have been a second-half team all season long, a fact the players and coaches themselves have admitted. Thus, it makes sense to target the Rams to record the first score of the game. It is somewhat surprising to find shorter odds on either side to score a touchdown than a field goal as the first score in the Super Bowl. At +350, betting on a Rams field goal to produce the first points is worthwhile.

We can also harken back to our conservative playcalling handicap from above when considering this prop. Nerves, penalties, etc. could all lead to a promising drive stalling out. As a result, a field goal has a great chance to break the ice as far as scoring. With this in mind, it certainly makes sense to side with the favored team as the side that ultimately posts those first points.

Best Rams vs. Bengals Super Bowl Team Total Props

Rams team total Under 27.5 (-135) ???

While bettors need to lay a little extra juice to play the Rams’ team total Under 27.5, it is a much better number than the standard line of 26.5. Los Angeles’ offensive line will have its work cut out trying to stave off the underrated Bengals pass rush.

By playing Under 27.5, bettors are covered even if the Rams put up a trio of touchdowns and two field goals. With the game total sitting at 48.5 and the Under being the sharp side, it is highly unlikely that L.A. produces anything more than that.

Bengals team total Under 20.5 (+110) ????

The challenge that the Rams offensive line will face is nothing compared to what the Bengals are set to encounter. Cincinnati gave up a whopping nine sacks in the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Tennessee Titans and another in the AFC title game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Bengals have a star QB in Burrow and a plethora of playmakers at the skill positions. Unfortunately, none will be able to perform if Aaron Donald and the Rams defensive front is blowing plays up before they even get started. Twenty points really feels like the ceiling for Cincy in the Super Bowl.

Best Rams vs. Bengals Super Bowl Margin of Victory Team Props

Rams to win by 1-13 points (+140) ????

It is honestly shocking to see a favorable +140 price on the Rams to win by a final margin of 1-13 points. After all, the spread for Super Bowl LVI currently favors Los Angeles by 4.5 points. When it comes down to it, the Rams are the superior team in terms of talent on both sides of the ball.

While the Bengals' defense is more than capable of keeping them within the number, it would be a pretty big surprise if Cincinnati were to win the game outright. Based on a matchup handicap that anticipates fewer points overall, the margin of victory should ultimately land within two touchdowns.

Rams to Win by 14+ Points (+140) ?

While this is certainly a second option to the above selection, betting the Rams to win by two full touchdowns or more is preferred to any winning margin team prop on the Bengals. L.A. has pushed all of its chips into the middle of the table on winning the Super Bowl this season. The Bengals are a year or two ahead of schedule and got several fortunate breaks during their postseason run just to reach this point.

One way or another, Los Angeles will emerge victoriously. As both options carry plus-money odds, bettors can position themselves for a guaranteed profit should they choose to bet both winning margin team props on the Rams.

Best Rams vs. Bengals Super Bowl Race to Points Team Props

Rams to win race to 20 points (-155) ???

It’s interesting to note the stark contrast in the odds for neither team to reach 20 points as opposed to 10 points. While a winning ticket on neither team to score 10 points in the Super Bowl would payout at 66-1 odds, the same bet for the 20-point threshold only carries 9-1 odds.

The scenario above is a big reason why bettors can back the Rams to win the race to 20 points with confidence. In reality, Los Angeles may very well be the only team to cross the 20-point threshold at all on Sunday. Based on our general handicap of the game, it is worth laying the -155 price on the Rams.

Best Rams vs. Bengals Super Bowl Fun Team Props

First team to use a coach's challenge: Bengals (-115) ??

This might be a bit of a contrarian play given the tendencies of the two head coaches with their challenges during this year's postseason. While the Bengals' Zac Taylor has not challenged a play since the wild-card round, the red flag has been burning a hole in the pocket of Sean McVay on the Rams' sideline. However, the playoff challenge rates differ greatly from the season-long trends of both coaches.

Prior to the postseason, McVay only threw the challenge flag once all season. He has thrown it four times in the Rams' three playoff games. Both of his challenges in the NFC Championship Game were unsuccessful and very questionable attempts at that. After taking heat for those decisions, perhaps McVay will be a bit gunshy and more conservative with his challenges and timeouts in the Super Bowl, especially early on.

Meanwhile, Taylor threw the challenge flag eight times during the regular season. While he has not challenged a play in each of the Bengals' last two games, Taylor could be itching to help steal a play for his team in the big game if at all possible. This is really a toss-up team prop, but one in which riding with the underdog Bengals seems to make sense.
