Cam Newton and the Panthers have been a mess this season, and we don't anticipate it getting any better in Minnesota this weekend. Come check out why we think the Vikings are the right side with our NFL picks.

Odds Overview
The spread is hovering right around the key number of three, with the Vikings the NFL betting odds favorites at home in Week 13. Some sites have 2.5 if you think Minnesota is the right side, which is why it's imperative to use multiple books to maximize value out of your sports picks.

The total is trading at right around 42.5 points, which is one of the lower O/Us on the board. That has more to do with both team's offensive inefficiencies, rather than their defensive showings.

Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings haven't won since Week 9, but they've been making life difficult on their opponents lately, and they've certailny showcased a fighting mentality under new coach Mike Zimmer.

After a Week 10 bye, Minnesota lost 21-13 in Chicago in Week 11, and then followed that up with a 24-21 home loss to Green Bay last weekend. The Vikings gave Aaron Rodgers and company everything they could handle, but ultimately fell just short.

In a twist, it wasn't Aaron Rodgers that gave Minnesota fits. Rather, it was Eddie Lacy and the Packers run game that did the most damage, as Lacy ran for 125 yards and a touchdown and added two receptions for 13 yards and another score.

Offensively, the Vikings' Teddy Bridgewater threw for 210 yards with two touchdowns and one pick while running for another 32 yards. Jerick McKinnon was relatively quiet, but wideout Charles Johnson, who seemingly came out of nowhere, had another productive game with three catches for 52 yards and a score.

Minnesota enters Week 13 as the 29th-ranked team in passing yards per game, and they're #13 in rushing. Defensively, the Vikings are seventh against the pass and 20th against the run, but regardless we don't foresee them getting torn to shreds by the disappointing Panthers this Sunday.

Carolina Panthers
Week 12's setback at home to Atlanta added yet another disappointment to an ever-growing list for the Panthers.

Tipped as a team to watch out for before the season, instead it's been poor performances across the board out of Carolina. They're sitting at 3-7-1 on the year.

Want to know the funny thing? The Panthers are still very much in contention for a playoff spot, thanks to the laughing stock that is the NFC South. They're within striking distance of the division-leading Falcons, so the motivation is still going to be there for a team that still has plenty to play for.

But, it's hard to get behind a team that just hasn't been getting it done in any phase. The Panthers are #19 in passing, #24 in rushing, #26 against the pass and #21 against the run. It's just been a nightmare for this team, especially on the defensive end of the ball, and Cam Newton has made his fair share of mistakes too. The run game has been practically non-existent as well.

Put it all together and you can see why we're very skeptical of going anywhere near Carolina for the remainder of the season.

NFL Pick
Though their record doesn't blow you away, the Vikings have been far more competitive than the casual observer may recognize.

Minnesota has a solid secondary, the team's pass rush is also strong, and the emergence of Johnson as an exciting receiving threat to add to the arsenal are just some of the things going for Zimmer's crew. That's more than we can say about the Panthers, who have been a total mess in practically every way. We don't care if this team still has something to play for, or that they're coming off a bye.

The Panthers haven't won a game since Week 5 and we don't see that changing this weekend. When making your NFL picks for this game keep in mind that not often do you see the Vikings favored, but this is a spot where it's fully deserved - and, what's more, we believe they'll be able to grab the win and ATS cover for their backers at home in Week 13.
