Let's examine the NFL betting odds for Week 10's battle between the defending Champion Seahawks and the NY Giants, who are on a bad run right now, having lost three games in a row.
As if the Seahawks weren't already big enough favorites. They opened on Week 10 odds as 7.5-point chalk, but the public has jumped all over them, and now the spread ranges from nine points all the way up to ten-and-a-half.
For those itching to get in on some action on the total, the number is at 44.5 points at the moment. The Giants haven't exactly stood out defensively this season, but most of us know what the Seahawks bring to the table in that regard, thus making it a tough O/U choice with our NFL picks in Week 10.
It's already been a rollercoaster ride of a season for the Seahawks. They've gone through some serious ups and downs so far, and we've still got a lot of games left, so who knows where we'll go from here.
A quick synopsis before placing your NFL picks here: Seattle started strong, winning three of its first four games. However, the Seahawks then lost consecutive games (at home versus Dallas and on the road against St. Louis), and all of sudden the critics were out in full force. Percy Harvin was traded away to the Jets, and rumblings that there was inner turmoil within the team was abound. Was Seattle finished?
In short: no. The Seahawks have responded by winning two straight, starting with a hard-fought 13-9 road win over Carolina before grabbing a 30-24 home victory over Oakland. Not exactly the most dominant results, but wins are wins.
Against the Raiders, RB Marshawn Lynch was the star of the show. He ran 21 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns and added a team-high 76 receiving yards on five receptions to boot. It was easily his best game of the season. Coming up in Week 10, the Giants haven't been good defensively, so Lynch will be licking his lips at the prospects of another great game this Sunday.
Looking over the statistics, there's not much Seattle's doing poorly. The Seahawks have been great defensively, ranking in the top six in both defending the run and the pass. They've been running the ball great (#2 in the NFL) thanks to Lynch and the scrambling ability of Russell Wilson. They know who they are, and it's been working.
New York Giants
Like the Seahawks, we've seen some highs and lows for the Giants.
After opening the season with two losses, New York then went on to win three straight games, only to then turn around and lose three in a row. That's where we stand now.
The Giants, sitting at 3-5 on the year, have been very unreliable to back this season, and that held true in Week 9 against the Colts. On Monday Night Football, New York's defense was torn to shreds by Andrew Luck and company.
All things considered, it wasn't a bad day at the office for Eli Manning, who had 359 passing yards and two touchdowns without an interception. However, the run game didn't do much of anything, and as we mentioned the defensive effort was atrocious. New York has now allowed a whopping 98 points over the team's last three games alone.
Obviously, not much is going right for Tom Coughlin's team right now. The optimist would say this is a team that still possesses a lot of talent, but that can only take you so far. The Giants need a statement win to revitalize their season, and Week 10 presents the perfect opportunity to get it.
We'd be very surprised if the Seahawks didn't win this game straight up, but the line has reached a point where we have to take the underdogs.
The Giants have a tendency to show up when you least expect it (and vice versa), and we like their chances of at least avoiding a total blowout. They've lost three in a row and are going to be doing everything in their power to avoid yet another setback. The Seahawks haven't looked quite as dominant this season, so that helps our cause too.
If the NFL betting lines were as they were earlier in the week, perhaps we'd back Seattle, but in the end the value's too good to pass up. Add New York as massive dogs in the NFL odds to your collection of Week 10 picks.
