After a 37-0 beating of the San Diego Chargers, people are starting to sit up and take notice of the Miami Dolphins (5-3). See who we like as our betting pick in their match against the Detroit Lions.

Currently, the Detroit Lions are a 2.5 point betting favorite on NFL odds and the total for the game is listed at 44. The Dolphins have recently crushed the Chargers and the Chicago Bears. Now, they face another team that has been red hot in the Detroit Lions (6-2). Detroit has done their damage without a healthy Calvin Johnson.

Calvin Johnson Will Play
Megatron is expected to play in this game and we wont know what to expect. Detroit has done fine without him and this could either enhance their play or ruin their current chemistry on offense. One thing that we know for sure is that it won't affect the Lions running game as they're ranked 32nd in the league in rushing. Expect a lot of passes to be thrown between these two teams in this matchup.

Guys Stepping Up
Where the Lions are concerned, this has been the case as Golden Tate has been a brilliant pickup, leading the Lions receiving core and Joique Bell has been the main man on the ground with Reggie Bush having a horrible season.

On the season, Tate leads the Lions with 800 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. In his last 2 games, he's caught 15 passes for a total of 250 yards and 1 TD. You hate to tinker with a receiver that is playing to his fullest potential, but Calvin Johnson is the best receiver in football and can't be left out of the mix. I'm not so sure that this will help Detroit win more games. Obviously, Tate likes being the main man in the offense. Regardless, the Lions offense will be tested this week as Miami's defense has been quite stingy as of late.

We also note that Reggie Bush will be back in action to play his old team, but he's had a disastrous season and shouldn't play much of a role here if his poor play continues.

The Second Coming of Dan Marino?
One thing that you can say about Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill is when he's in the zone, he's nearly perfect. Tannehill can go 15 passes at a time without throwing an incompleted pass. Without Knowshon Moreno in the lineup, Tannehill has been magical and without a lot of superstars in the Miami offense.

On the season, Tannehill has thrown for 1907 yards with 14 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. The numbers don't do Tannehill justice, He's gotten the Dolphins out to early and big leads with players like Lamar Miller and Mike Wallace and the Dolphins have never looked back. There is no Megatron on the Dolphins roster and the Fins have been able to dominate their opponents.

With all of that said, Miami's defense has also been dominant in during their 3 game winning streak. The defense has allowed a mere 9 points per game during that period of time as the Dolphins have outscored their opposition 91-27. In my opinion, the pressure is on Detroit, who has no running game to speak of, and has to incorporate Calvin Johnson back into their offensive scheme.

Miami's defense has led me away from the 'over' as a NFL pick on this game. The Dolphins have been untouchable and Ryan Tannehill is proving that he can get out to those early leads and lead his team to victory. Detroit has been very successful, but with no running game, the Dolphins defense will be licking their chops.
