One of only three remaining unbeaten teams puts their perfection on the line this Sunday, as the Eagles head into San Francisco to play the Niners. The NFL Odds have the unbeaten Eagles as underdogs of +5 ½ or even +6 after opening at +4, with a total of 50 ½.

Eagles Escape Again
The Eagles have now squeezed by with a win over the last two weeks, winning both Weeks 2 and 3 by a field goal. This past week Nick Foles once again led his team to victory with two fourth quarter scoring drives, and three touchdowns on the game. His pass to set up the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter to Jeremy Maclin was a strike, and even though his defense didn’t play a very good game against Washington, Foles dominated what has become a much better defense than most everyone projected this season.

Now they have to face their toughest challenge yet, going into San Francisco on national television to play the Niners. San Francisco has now lost two straight games to NFC playoff contenders, and with the Seahawks setting the pace in the NFC West, this is almost a must-win for the 49ers. At 1-2, if they lose for the third week in a row, their playoff chances go from slim to very slim. Even though Anquan Boldin is blaming the officials for the Niners’ most recent loss, maybe he should look inward at their offense. The Niners have scored approximately three points in the second halves of their two most recent games, and against a team like the Eagles, if the Niners can’t get some points on the board in the second half this week, they will fall to 1-3 easily.

The Sharp Pick
The 49ers are only 1-4 ATS in their last five games dating back to last season as favorites, and they have the same record in their last five home gamed dating back to 2013. Even though they’ve gone unbeaten ATS in Week 4 of the season over the last four years, they are in disarray right now. Reports are starting to surface that Jim Harbaugh is losing the locker room, and with all of the off field issues clouding and limiting their defense, the Niners are far from the team that made it to the Super Bowl a few years ago, and even further from the team that has made it to the last few NFC title games.

The Eagles on the other hand look like the team on the rise. Even though their defense is far from perfect, they make up for it with their fast-paced and diverse offense. Now with their NFL odds gaining value quickly this week, I think it’s time to take the points with the road team. Philly is 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games as road dogs between 3 ½ and 10 points, and they are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record. The Eagles are also 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games as a road dog.

I expect the Eagles’ offense to tear up the San Francisco secondary, and with the problems the Niners have had on offense recently, taking the Eagles in any second half bet might also be a very good value. The Niners are falling from grace fast, but it seems like the public and sportsbooks have yet to catch on. I am quite surprised to see the Niners as such big favorites even after struggling like they have, and I am happy to fade them on Sunday.
