Last week we went 2-1 ATS, and this week we are looking for a clean sweep in our NFL picks. Let’s take a look at what’s in store for Week 5 and keep cashing those tickets.

Swinger’s 2017 NFL Record: 5-6-0 (-2.10 Units)

Forget about the Patriots’ Thursday night snoozer in which they defeated the Bucs 19-14. What still irks me as I write this is their horrendous performance against the Panthers last Sunday when they bowed 33-30 in a defensive suckfest. New England was a 9-point favorite, and I not only included them as one of my three NFL picks, I made them a four-unit play! Of course, my other two three-unit plays cashed when the underdog Eagles and Rams both won outright. So, we end up +1.6 units for last week and hope to climb over this sub-.500 mark with a strong showing in Week 5. Let’s go!

Chargers (+3½) at Giants

Let’s cut to the quick. The Giants are suspect to many because of the uncertain status of All-World wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. However, their defensive front is the reason Giants’ fans should be concerned as they have their top two linemen, Damon Harrison and Oliver Vernon, dealing with nagging injuries. Say what you will about Bolts QB Philip Rivers, but if he has time to throw he usually connects. The NFL odds on this one are a solid 3 across the board but I will pay a little more vig to grab the hook.

Titans (-2½) at Dolphins

Obviously the status of Tennessee’s quarterback Marcus Mariota is the wild card in this one. Even if he does go, he won’t be at peak form, which is why the line is more generous than it should be on the Titans. If he doesn’t don the blue and white on Sunday, expect perennial retread Matt Cassel to get the call. Truth be told, the Dolphins are so impotent that I believe even Cassel can manufacture enough points to cover this small number if he relies on a heavy dose of DeMarco Murray. The Fish have averaged less than 9 points per contest against the less-than-stellar defenses of San Diego, New York Jets and New Orleans. Let’s take a flier on the Titans in our NFL picks and back them ever so gently.

Cardinals at Eagles (-6½)

The Eagles are 3-1 (2-2 ATS), and I’m still waiting for them to erupt. I predicted this team would win the NFC East and make noise in the postseason, yet I am still a bit underwhelmed despite their first-place standing in their division. However, I don’t expect to feel this way for too much longer as I believe they have a golden opportunity to thrash the Cardinals in this one.

Arizona has a woeful offensive line, while the Eagles boast one of the best QB bodyguard protectors. There’s no David Johnson on the Cardinals side of the ball and Chris Johnson is a poor substitute. I see Carson Wentz carving up the Redbirds, while Carson Palmer will spend much of the afternoon running for his life and heaving the ball anywhere remotely close to Larry Fitzgerald. Turnovers will kill Arizona and set the Eagles up for a double-digit victory.

The Woodman’s Corner (2-2, -0.2 Units)

The Woodman looked like a savant after the first half of the Colts-Seahawks tilt last week in which he advised a play on the big road dog. Indianapolis was ahead 15-10 when the whistle signaled the end of the opening half, but once the second half commenced the Seahawks took command and rolled to a 46-18 victory.

This week his money is on the Jaguars despite the fact they lost 23-20 as 4-point favorites to the woeful New York Jets last week. The Woodman sayeth the Cats shall rise up in the Steel City and cover the number as 8½ point road dogs vs. Pittsburgh. That game looks like a heavy pass for me, but the Woodman always seems be plus units at the end of the season so let’s see if he climbs above .500 with a cover Sunday.
