Football is back and so is one of our resident cappers Swinging Johnson to fatten your bankroll this season. Swinger will be keeping a record of his NFL picks this year, as he always does, and without further ado - the let the games begin!

Swinger’s 2017 NFL Record (0-0-0, +0.0 Units)

If Thursday night’s result is any indication of what’s in store for us this year then it will be a whacky season full of upsets and injuries. As you all know by now, the defending Super Bowl champs were stunned in Foxboro by the Kansas City Chiefs. We need to understand that much has transpired since last season in terms of roster moves, coaching changes and game plans. Let’s be cautious in the opening weeks in order to understand who’s who in the NFL pecking order this year. With that, let’s explore the NFL odds for Week 1 and get this money train rolling!

Philadelphia Eagles (-1) at Washington Redskins

Philadelphia is the team that seems to creep into any conversation I’ve had with people whose opinions I respect regarding the 2017 NFL season. There’s a positive buzz about the Eagles and it has been reflected in the NFL odds in Week 1 where Philly opened as 2 ½ point underdogs to the Redskins to where they now stand as one-point favorites in most shops except 5Dimes where they are being offered at a pick. The Eagles were 1-6 in games decided by seven points or less and I feel those near misses will turn to victories in 2017.

The Redskins will face a fierce Philadelphia defense, and with their center Spencer Long going at less than 100 percent we see Kirk Cousins running for his life. Factor in that Carson Wentz now has a year under his belt and the Philly brass has added two shiny new toys to his arsenal in Alshon Jeffrey and Torrey Smith. All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson has returned after a suspension in 2016 and he will provide Wentz some valuable time in the pocket. Back the Eagles in your NFL picks and watch them soar!

Pittsburgh Steelers (-8 ½) at Cleveland Browns

Riddle me this? How in the hell are the Browns going to stop Antonio Brown and the recently returned from a season-long suspension Martavis Bryant with Le’Veon Bell in the backfield? Ben Roethlisberger is healthy for this one which is something we won’t be able to say at some point this season.

The Steelers also picked up the Browns’ best defensive weapon in Joe Haden. Laying north of a touchdown on the road smacks of a square play to be sure but the public is not always wrong and they won’t be here. Back the Steelers on the road over the lackluster Browns.

Woodman’s Corner (0-0-0, +0.0 Units)

The enigmatic and deeply disturbed Woodman is back for another season and those who have followed him in the past know that he has a perverse penchant for pups – as in underdogs - and of course, Newfies. He’s certainly not veering from his trusted path as this week he will be backing future Hall-of-Famer Scott Tolzien and the Indianapolis Colts over the LA Rams.
