There are less than three months until the 2017 NFL season kicks off! The Westgate Las Vegas has added a high-end option to its annual NFL SuperContest. If that’s too rich for your blood, you can win plenty on SBR’s free contests.
True football handicappers no doubt are well aware of the annual NFL SuperContest handicapping competition put on every year by the Westgate Las Vegas sportsbook. For that, contestants can win their share of the prize pool by paying a $1,500 entry fee prior to the start of the NFL regular season and then picking five games each week against the spread throughout the season. The prize structure is based on the number of entrants, after the 8% administration fee. Last year, a Starbucks barista won the SuperContest and took home $907,699.38.
After a record 1,854 entries in 2016 -- the seventh straight year that the number of entries has increased -- the SuperContest is adding a higher-end competition: SuperContest Gold. The difference is that costs $5,000 to enter. On the bright side, there is no administrative fee taken out as opposed to 8% rake for the regular SuperContest. However, while the Top 50 entries all cash in the regular contest, the Gold is simply winner-take-all. There are no tiebreakers or aggregate bonuses. And just one entry per person.
Let’s face it, though: not all of us have $1,500 to compete in Westgate SuperContest, much less $5K to compete in the Gold. Sportsbook Review offers two free alternatives this coming football season for SBR Pro members.
There’s Beat The Prick, a popular returning SBR contest. The Prick makes picks on NFL or college football sides or totals by 5 p.m. ET Tuesday of each week. The sides/totals he selects will be taken off the board. Competitors then must make 5 plays each week to be eligible for that week's free play prize and must have made 70 total plays (participated for 14 weeks) to be eligible for the $50,000 in cash prizes at year’s end. Simply beat the Prick in a week and you win something. You must make one 2-unit best bet each week. All other plays will be based on one unit. If The Prick goes 5-0 that week, nobody wins. You must be an SBR Pro to join this contest.
SBR is also working an on additional NFL/college football handicapping contest with details to come later this summer. Like all SBR contests, that will be free to enter and you don't need to be an SBR Pro for this one. So it's a great opportunity for newbies to get their handicapping feet wet.
