Sunday Night Football pits Indianapolis Colts against Houston Texans, a week 6 showdown firmly cornered with the hosts on the NFL odds board. Can the Colts defy the NFL odds?

Indianapolis Colts (2-3 SU, 0-2 away)

Andrew Luck and the Colts are sat third in the AFC South behind a 2-3 SU and ATS mark, hampered by a -2.2 losing margin on average and a -2.4 differential versus the spread. So much for having the most expensive quarterback. What’s most concerning, they can’t even protect their precious investment. Luck is the most sacked quarterback this season with 20 sacks in five games – three more sacks than Andy Dalton and Ryan Tannehill, another pair of popular targets pounded with impunity by opposing defenses.

All is not lost, though. It’s early days, a notoriously weak AFC South division where things can turn on a dime. Things may not be going to plan right now, but, on a positive note, the Colts took a concentrated step forward in week 5 when they beat the Chicago Bears at Lucas Oils Stadium 29-23 to win and cover as the -4.0 home chalk in the NFL odds board.

Houston Texans (3-2, 3-0 home)

The Houston Texans currently lead the AFC South with a 3-2SU mark underscored by a perfect 3-0 SU mark at home. The NRG Stadium has been treated to nothing but the best from Brock Osweiler and the Texans. Not the same can be said of their travels, one of which resulted in a pointless trip to the Foxboro. The other trip to Minnesota, only just last week, very nearly went pointless too until a few late face-saving scores helped avoid the ignominy of a second straight shutout on the road.

In any event, the Texans are back at the NRG where they’re undefeated on the season. Predictably, they are installed as the -3.0 home chalk with most sportsbooks, including reduced juice leaders Pinnacle where the Texans are laying -3 (-107) at the time of writing. Texans are 3-0 SU and ATS at home with 7.7 winning margin on average and a +4.8 differential versus the spread.

Colts vs. Texans NFL Betting Verdict:

A lot is to be desired by both these teams and that makes the betting a bit tricky for this game. Granted the Colts are coming off a win but there’s just something not right. The offense looks to have regressed over the last few seasons, and Luck is grazing the grass way too often that one fears he’s in real danger of another injury-ridden season. The Colts have to protect their prized quarterback better. And don’t let’s get started on the Colts defense, which is just awful, if not almost non-existent.

All these things (and more) make it difficult to buy stock in the Colts in any given NFL betting week, never mind this game that is sure to pit Luck against a pretty stout defense.

The Texans are suffering from a split personality –one that shows up at home and another that shows up on the road. It’s enough to frustrate any fan. Will the real Texans please stand up? However, seeing as they are at the NRG Stadium for this week 6 AFC South showdown it does go some way towards underscoring the NFL betting line for this game. In fact, after the Texans defense home advantage is the second thing we’re hanging our hat on for this week 6 NFL pick on the Texans.
