It could be the battle of the backup quarterbacks for Sunday Night Football, & the defenses could be the stars of the show as the Cowboys get ready for some New Orleans' jazz.

As of Thursday, there are no NFL odds for this game as the sportsbooks are awaiting word on Brees, and if he plays, the Saints should be favored, although not by a lot. If he doesn't, the Cowboys are a strong possibility to be favored on the road, although again, it won't be by a lot as they have Brandon Weeden under center. The Saints will go with Luke McCown, who threw for 310 yards against the Panthers. Weeden completed 22 of 26 pass attempts against the Falcons, so both backups actually played well last week, but can they do it again?

Injuries
Besides the injuries to Romo (collarbone) and Bryant (foot) that will have them out for a while, TE Jason Witten (ankle/knee) continues to play through various ailments. He should be good to go this weekend, which is good news for Weeden, who needs all the weapons he can get.

DB Keenan Lewis (hip) says that he'll play this weekend for the Saints, which is great for a defense that has allowed six touchdowns and hasn't picked off a pass yet. DE Cameron Jordan (personal) didn't practice as he was dealing with legal issues, but he should be able to play. S Jairus Byrd (knee) is at least practicing, but he probably won't play, but the big question mark is Brees, who didn't start at quarterback for the Saints for the first time in 90 games. His shoulder seems to be better, though, and he took most of the reps on Wednesday in practice, so there is a good chance Brees will be back for New Orleans, who desperately need a win.

Trends
The Cowboys have covered in six of their last nine games overall, while the Saints have covered in just one of their last five. Dallas is on a roll on the road, covering in their last five, and they're 10-1 SU in their last 11. The Saints have failed to cover in their last five home games.

The Saints are 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings with Dallas, who are 2-6 SU and ATS in New Orleans since 1988.
