Philip Rivers O/U 282 ½ Passing Yards
Even though it’s the last week of the regular season, I have but one prop for you to close out the final week of NFL football without playoff games. However, this one prop has some nice value when you break it down, and it’s Philip Rivers’ passing yards prop of 282 ½ yards.
Rivers has been a machine this season once again, furthering his potential as being remembered of one of the greatest quarterbacks to never win a Super Bowl. Rivers still has time to change the latter half of that title, and this afternoon is going to determine whether or not Rivers is going to be in the playoffs.
At 8-7, a win and a Titans loss will guarantee a playoff spot for the Chargers, and with the Titans hosting Jacksonville, that is entirely possible. It’s also nice because Rivers and the Chargers are at home against the Raiders, who can give up some passing yards.
So far this season, the Raiders’ secondary has allowed 3659 passing yards this year, which is an average of 244 per game. While they have been better lately in that area, Rivers dropped 268 on them in Oakland back in Week 6, and now in Los Angeles, I see even more from the veteran QB.
The main reason for that is the Chargers’ running game is not what it was back in Week 6. Melvin Gordon will likely play, but he is banged up, and with Austin Ekeler limited to special teams, the Chargers are thin at running back.
Not only do they want to make the playoffs, the Chargers want to make sure they are healthy going into them as well. The Chargers have a nice shot at upsetting a team like Jacksonville or Kansas City in the first round, so they will want to try to keep Gordon fresh.
That means lots of throwing, so from sheer volume alone, Rivers could go over this prop If he chucks it 40 times this afternoon, the over on his passing yards props is money in the bank.
