Seattle Seahawks vs. KC Chiefs 8:00 ET
The Seattle Seahawks visit the KC Chiefs for Game 2 of the 2015 NFL-Ex Season. Kickoff is set for 8:00 ET, Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium. Divergent results from Game 1, along with the strong coaching tendencies, provide us with a solid chance of victory. Aiding our cause is 3 points of line value with the opening line moving from Seattle (-1) to KC (-2).
KC was a surprise winner in Week 1. That improved the Chiefs’ preseason franchise mark of late to 10-35 ATS. It was particularly surprising in light of KC’s poor record in their first road game which fit hand in glove with that of current HC Reid. KC fell behind 10-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, as Arizona was on track to continue their Game 1 success under HC Arians. But, it was all Chiefs from that point on! With projected QB Smith on the bench, 2nd string QB Daniel had an outstanding day, going 17 for 21 with 3 TDs. Combined with a 143-75 overland edge, KC erupted for a 34-19 victory in Game 1. But, no way are willing to follow that momentum based on the poor track record of both KC and Reid in the preseason.
The night before the KC win, Seattle opened their 2015 NFL-Ex Season with a surprising 22-20 home loss to Denver. Neither starting QB, Manning for Denver, or Wilson for Seattle, saw significant playing time. Both on the field and on the scoreboard, it was all Broncos. Denver held a 356-181 total yardage edge, along with a surprising 113-89 advantage in the running game. Seattle HC Carroll entered that game with a 26-11 ATS preseason mark. Based on the way in which Seattle lost the Super Bowl last season, it was widely believed that Carroll would make a priority of winning the first preseason game to reestablish positive momentum and confidence. Since that outcome did not occur, it is the opinion of this bureau that Carroll will make this game even more of a priority. Expect a healthy dose of QB Wilson behind center and a clear emphasis on establishing the ground game. Should that take place, it will expand HC Carroll’s record to 14-1 ATS in NFL-Ex when facing an opponent who is coming off a victory.
In the ebb and flow of the NFL, the results from last week, combined with recent Seattle losses, and the history of Carroll in this role, provides the perfect storm for a Seahawks’ victory.
