Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers (-7, 44)

Tennessee is tied with Jacksonville for the lead in the AFC South at 6-3 SU, but it has gone just 3-5-1 against the spread after failing to cover in last Sunday’s 24-20 victory against Cincinnati as a 4.5-point home favorite. The total went OVER 40.5 points and it has gone OVER in six of the Titans’ last eight games. They are 1-3 ATS this season on the road with the total evenly split at 2-2.

Marcus Mariota has thrown for 1,783 yards and seven touchdowns as part of a Tennessee offense that is 27th in the NFL in passing yards. It moves to eighth in the league in rushing behind the duo of DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry, who have combined to gain 842 yards on the ground. Mariota did injure his non-throwing shoulder against the Bengals, but he is expected to get the start on Thursday night.

The Steelers have opened up a three-game lead ahead of Baltimore in the AFC North at 7-2 SU while going 6-3 ATS. They did fail to cover last week as 10.5-point road favorites in a tight 20-17 win against Indianapolis. The total stayed UNDER the 46.5-point closing line and it has now stayed UNDER in eight of Pittsburgh’s first nine games. The Steelers head back to Heinz Field with a 2-1 record ATS in three home games this season.

Behind veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers are ranked 10th in the league in passing with an average of 251.9 yards a game. Antonio Brown remains Big Ben’s top target with 60 receptions for 840 yards and three touchdowns, but rookie receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster came up big last week against the Colts with five catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. The Steelers are averaging 20.8 points a game while holding their opponents to 16.4 PPG.

Game Betting Trends
  • The Titans have failed to cover ATS in 20 of their last 27 road games and they come into Thursday night’s contest at 0-4 ATS in their last four November games. The total has gone OVER in five of their last seven conference games.
  • The Steelers have gone a profitable 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a SU winning record and they have a 3-1-1 record ATS in their last five games played at home. The total has stayed UNDER in their last four Thursday games.
  • Going back over the last seven meetings in this AFC matchup, the underdog has covered ATS in six of those games. The total has gone OVER the closing betting line in eight of the last 11 matchups in Pittsburgh.

The Verdict

Both of these teams are currently at the top of their respective division standings, but the overall edge in this matchup has to go to Pittsburgh as the more talented team on both sides of the ball. This is the time of the season when the contenders start to distance themselves from the pretenders and that should be the case on Thursday with the Steelers covering the seven points at home. You could also make a strong case to parlay this NFL pick with a play on the UNDER.
