It wouldn't be Super Bowl 50 without the usual lineup of Super Bowl picks on the NFL odds board. Who wants orange Gatorade? How about some more of that Left Shark?
This Sunday, millions of football fans will be waiting in anticipation for the biggest moment in sports: the coin toss at Super Bowl 50. Will it be heads or tails? We don't have any idea here at the ranch, but it's going to be one of the first Super Bowl props people have on their lists – right after the National Anthem props, once the NFL figures out who the singer's going to be. Probably whoever pays them the most, we assume.
If you're new to betting on football, this might all seem a bit strange, but that's the Super Bowl for you. It's about entertainment, and most of the Super Bowl props on our NFL odds board should be for entertainment purposes only. That's definitely the case for the coin toss; the best we can advise is to look for the smallest vigorish available, which at press time is the –103 at Bookmaker. Here are some other exotic wagers to spice up your Super Bowl experience, with their odds at Bovada as we go to press.
What color will the liquid be that is poured on the winning coach?
It's become a tradition for the winning players to dump the contents of their Gatorade cooler (other sports beverages are available) on their head coach once the game is over – or just about over, depending on the score. It's got electrolytes~! Orange is a common Gatorade color, and it's the favorite again this year at +125, followed by Blue at +300. Historically, Clear (+400) has the advantage after being used four straight times from 2007 to 2010 inclusive.
How many wings will Buffalo Wild Wings sell on Super Bowl Day?
The over/under for this allegedly tasty prop has been set at 12 million wings. Last year, the folks at Buffalo Wild Wings reported selling over 11 million wings on Super Bowl Sunday. That's up from 9.1 million in 2014 and 6.5 million in 2012. No doubt the total will continue to climb this year; if you're going to put the OVER in your NFL picks, you'll probably want to order some yourself. We've never had their wings, so we'll suspend judgment.
Which song will Coldplay play first during the halftime show?
We do have a few things to say about Coldplay. Starting with an apology: When we picked the Denver Broncos at +210 on the moneyline, we had some bad things to say about some of the recent Super Bowl halftime acts. The fact that we're all music snobs here at the home office doesn't make it right. If you like Coldplay, or the Black Eyed Peas, please forgive us. However, we're still not going to be watching when “Adventure of a Lifetime” (+200) gets played first.
Will “Left Shark” make an appearance on stage during the Super Bowl halftime show?
YES is the only option at +1500, which means you shouldn't take this bet seriously. We can only hope, though. Maybe if we use our psychic powers, we can summon a full-on Sharknado.
