The New Orleans Saints' offense is about as good as it gets but their lack of defense grounded them last season. We believe better things are in store for the boys on the bayou so let's review the NFL odds on their regular season win total and cash a ticket.

Saints Edge Over Season Wins

The Saints have had three consecutive 7-9 seasons and that disappointing fact has everything to do with their defense and virtually nothing to do with the incomparable Drew Brees and his prolific offense. They were ranked second to last in points allowed last season, trailing only the 49'ers, but the good news is that they have finally put forth a concentrated effort to improve on the defensive side of the ball. New Orleans drafted cornerback Marshon Lattimore with the 11th overall pick in the draft and then plucked Wisconsin lineman Ryan Ramczyk with the last pick in the first-round. They then selected a big playmaking safety in Marcus Williams out of Utah early in the second round and picked up a starting middle linebacker in A.J. Klein via free agency.

The Saints went 2-4 against divisional foes last season and improving on that will be interesting particularly because the Panthers should be far better than they were last season, yet the Falcons will most likely not be the juggernaut they were in 2016. How they fare against Tampa Bay, their other NFC South rival, may tell the tale of whether we cash with over the posted total in our NFL picks. The Saints' strength of schedule is ranked 15th in the league and the NFL odds makers are hanging an early season win total of 8 ½ (U-120). I believe even if their offense is not quite as explosive without wideout Brandin Cooks, their improved defense will more than pick up the slack. I say this team has nine wins in its future so get high with the Saints.
