Road Teams had a good turnout in week 2 NFL preseason betting, bouncing back from a rather dubious opening week. Here’s a look at some of the results and betting trends revealed, all while you consider upcoming week 3 NFL matchups on your NFL wagers.

Road Teams Rule
No such thing as a ‘lock’ or a ‘certain’ bet exists in sports betting, despite what numerous pundits or handicappers might claim because betting isn’t subjective, there is no rhyme or reason for results that occur.

In week 1, the NFL betting trends were conspicuously skewed towards the home teams, with the hosts going 14-2 straight up and 12-3-1 against the spread.  Week 2 however saw the road teams close the gap in betting trends, going 6-9 SU and 9-6 against the spread with just Monday Night Football preseason action between the Browns and Redskins left to go into the books. Another difference was had in totals betting. Week 1 the “under” proved the winning NFL pick as 13 of 17 games (Hall of Fame game included in the number) went below market chalk lines. Week 2 went the opposite way,  the “over” thriving to 9-6 on the books.

Big Road Winners
Some of the big road winners in week 2 included the Ravens, Broncos, Jets and Packers. Gary Kubiak’s offensive-minded Ravens beat the Cowboys 37-30, upsetting the +1.0 spread odds and the totals set to the tune of approximately 42.0 (or thereabouts depending on your sportsbook of choice). New York Jets stunned the Bengals in a 25-17 win that upset the modest 3.0 spread matched and 40.5 total set totals betting. Meanwhile, the Broncos and Packers were big winners upsetting the odds with a 34-0 victory and 21-7 victory, respectively. However, both games went “under” set totals of 40.0 and 41.0, respectively. Other road winners included the Giants over the Colts and Dolphins over Buccaneers.

Road Underdogs on money line odds
The Packers were matched as the underdogs across the board, anywhere between +110 to +125, the Dolphins at +120-ish and the Giants at +105, all of which upset the odds in road victory.  The biggest road cash-ins however came from the Jets, who were matched at +140 up to +150 to win straight up and, the Broncos, who were shockingly matched at as high as +160 to win outright on the road. Only the Baltimore Ravens were matched as road favourites at -120 to win outright.

Bankable Home Teams
Home team’s that scored big included the Seattle Seahawks, who alone pushed the team totals over the 39.0 mark in the 41-14 victory over the Chargers. While Houston Texans finally got their act together winning 32-7 at home to the Falcons and Cam Newton and his Panthers recorded their first win in the preseason with a 28-16 win over Kansas City Chiefs. Other home teams scoring straight up wins included the New England Patriots in a high-octane affair over the Eagles 42-35, Saints over the Titans 31-24 and the valiant Raiders edging the Lions 27-26.

NFL Week 3 Preseason betting: Sportsbooks are rife with week 3 NFL betting odds, including the highly anticipated matchups that NFL bettors are sure to circle on their calendars, such as Steelers at Eagles, Panthers at Patriots, Bears at Seahawks, Saints at Colts and Chargers at Niners, to mention a few. What trends will hold true in Week 3 is anybody’s guess, but after week 2 picked up the tempo the way it did on the scoreboard,  bookies are erring on the side of caution and raising the total chalk line across the board, with a low of 41.0 and a high of 50.0 currently available.
