NFL Betting Trends Week 1
Defending champions New England Patriots kicked off the week with a gauntlet throwing 28-21 win over the Steelers that saw them push as the closing 7-point favorites and come just under the 51-total, setting the tone for a solid account for home favorites overall. Home favorites finished 10-6-0 SU and 9-7-0 ATS.

It didn’t start that way for home teams as Sunday’s early action was all about road teams, particularly road favorites. The Packers, closing on -6.5 on the road, took care of the Bears in a 31-23 win at Soldier Field, while the Chiefs, closing as the -1.0 road favorites, edged the Texans 27-20 in Houston. Finally, the Dolphins and Panthers came through as the -4.0 and -3.0 road favorites, respectively. Overall, road favorites went 5-4 ATS in week 1.

Home teams rose to the occasion in Sunday’s afternoon round going 4-2 SU and ATS, amongst them were the ST. Louis Rams who masterminded the biggest upset of the day when they defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-31 in OT. The Rams were the biggest home underdogs to win SU and cover (+3.5 closing).

Titans and Bengals were the exception to the rule in the afternoon as the Titans (+3.0 road underdogs) smashed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 42-14 and the Bengals (-3.0 road favorites) overpowered the Raiders in 33-13 win.

Dallas Cowboys came through for SU bettors in Sunday Night Football, but the NY Giants covered as the 6-point road underdogs. In fact, the Giants were one play away from pulling off both the win and cover.

Monday Night Football’s double-header was a right thriller and saw both home underdogs come through for bettors. The Philadelphia Eagles (-3.0 road faves) were a field-goal away from pulling off the SU win in Atlanta only to boggle it and lose 26-24, while the Niners manhandle the Minnesota Vikings (-2.5 road faves) in a 20-3 win at Levi Stadium.
