With the bulk of the NFL Preseason Week 1 in the books, save for Sunday Night’s clash between the Colts and Eagles, we recap the first taste of NFL betting this season and determine how each and every team performed against the NFL betting markets.

NFL Preseason Week 1 Betting Recap
The first week of exhibition games are in the books almost in its entirety. The only game left to complete the slate is the highly-anticipated clash between the Indianapolis Colts and the Philadelphia Eagles. In any event, with most of the results in, we look at hoe all the teams performed against market expectations in Table 1. These performance indicators are based on closing odds, as obtained at Vegas Insider closing markets.

How Did We Perform With Our NFL Picks?
Ahead of Preseason week 1 NFL betting, we served up game-by-game picks against the spread and for total betting markets. As our NFL picks were served up early in the week, with NFL odds at early doors, we tally up our results for the first 15 games.

In Week 1 of the Preseason, our NFL picks Against the Spread, we went 8-6-1 and our over/under NFL picks went 8-7-0.

One thing is certain, we’re going to finish no worse than .500 when all is said and done between the Colts and Eagles tonight in the first week of preseason handicapping. Consider the first week features mostly back-ups and rookies battling it out on the field for a spot on the roster, coaches barely strategize to win games and we’re a touch rusty too (hey, it’s been five months since we last weighed in on NFL betting properly) it’s a decent result.

Home Faves That Came Through Worth Noting
Detroit Lions (-4 at closing) were the biggest home favorites to come through for those backing them with NFL picks when they beat the NY Jets 23-3. Minnesota Vikings (-3.5) looked sharp in their 26-16 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as did the Houston Texans (-3.5) in their 23-10 win over the Niners.

Other home favorites to come through were the Ravens (-2.5 at closing) in their win over the New Orleans Saints. The pair also served up the highest scoring affair of the week. The 30-27 win by the Ravens combined for 57 points, going well OVER the 38-point total (37.5 at closing doors).

Road Warriors Defy NFL Odds
Denver Broncos defeated the Seattle Seahawks 22-20, all while covering as the whopping 5.5-point road dogs. They are the biggest road underdogs to mastermind the upset in week 1 NFL betting so far. Others worth noting included the Green Bay Packers (2-point pups) coming through in a 22-11 win at the Foxboro and the Kansas City Chiefs (3-point underdogs at opening doors before settling in as the 1-point pups at closing doors) in a 34-19 win over the highly fancied Arizona Cardinals. Indeed, the latter served up the second highest scoring game of the week of 53 points combined, well OVER the closing 37-total mark.
