Jared Goff enjoyed his first start in the NFL. How did it go? By all accounts, it was an up and down start by the No.1 overall draft pick and he looked every bit the part of a greenhorn. It’s safe to assume, Goff is no Dak Prescott.  Well, there aren’t many of his kind to be sure. A lot of things go against Goff, from being tied to the worst offense in the league, to having a coach that isn’t willing to cut the apron strings and, well, simply, being a rookie. That doesn’t bode well for a date with one of the hottest offenses in the league and a veteran quarterback that can pick apart a secondary.

 The Survivor

The Saints are riding a two-game losing streak, falling to the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers in narrow defeats. Arguably, they could have won both those encounters and things would have looked different. In any event, no sense in crying over spilt milk. It happens: you win some and lose some. Saints are 4-6 SU on the season but all four wins come in their last seven games. So a form chart would look like this 4-3 SU in their last seven. The Rams, meanwhile, fritted away a 10-0 lead to lose 14-10 to the Miami Dolphins. Jeff Fischer’s Rams are well on their way to nowhere this season and slip to a 4-6-0 SU mark, which includes –rather worryingly – just one win in their last six games.

 Game Total

The Saints offense has been firing on all cylinders since week 1. Drew Brees and his O-line are averaging 28.5 points per game and the Saints are 5-5-0 in O/U betting with a +4.9 differential versus the total. Where the Saints have faltered is on the defensive side of the ball by conceding in equal proportion (28.6 points per game). The Rams, by contrast, have the most stunted offense in the league that is averaging a pathetic 14.9 points per game. The injection of Jared Goff doesn’t seem to have perked up the offense one bit. Then again, one game is a small sample size.
