Our NFL analyst previews Sunday’s opening game between Tampa Bay and Atlanta. Go inside to read this insightful article culminated with an extremely profitable NFL 2016 opening game prediction.

Rivals Collide in Season Opener
Atlanta will host Tampa on the opening Sunday of this 2016-2017 NFL season. The opening kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM ET. This will be the final home opener played at the Georgia Dome for Atlanta. The Falcons will move to a new state of the art stadium beginning next season.

Week 1 NFL betting odds displays Atlanta as a 2.5-point favorite, and the total is 47.5. Currently, that NFL point spread and the total can be found at 5Dimes, and they’re widely known as a premier sportsbook operating with a high degree of integrity.

Tampa Bay was 2-0 SU&ATS against Atlanta last season, and both contests stayed under the total. It also marked the first time that Tampa Bay swept both games versus Atlanta since 2007. The bad news was the Buccaneers were 4-10 last year against everyone else and finished a dismal 6-10.

Atlanta began its 2015-2016 campaign by winning its first 5 games. Unfortunately, they went 3-8 during their remaining 11 contests to end up 8-8.

NFL Week 1 Line Movement
The opening line at 5Dimes for this NFC South divisional battle had Atlanta installed as a 3.0-point favorite, and they posted a total of 47.5. Presently, 56% of the volume of point spread bets have gone on Tampa Bay, and totals wagers have been virtually split in half.  The move from 3.0 to 2.5 is insignificant in my eyes. There’s no indication of any sharp money being placed on this contest thus far. It further reaffirms my initial thought of this contest being a very tough call.

NFL Betting Angle
Any division home favorite of 3.0 or less (Atlanta), playing in its season opener, and they won 7 or more regular season games during the previous year, versus an opponent (Tampa Bay) which won 6 or more regular season games in the preceding season, resulted in those home favorites going 18-2 SU&ATS (90%) since 1990.

The above betting angle clearly favors Atlanta to be one of Sunday’s NFL picks in what is an otherwise fairly even matchup. My NFL tip regarding this game is to tread lightly. My professional intuition leads me to believe this has all the earmarks of an extremely tight game throughout. As a result of that prediction, I’ll have a very small lean towards the home side.
