The second week of the NFL Preseason is fast approaching and on the NFL betting menu before us are several standout matchups. Naturally, we’re back with our early NFL picks for each and every game.

NFL Week 1 Betting Recap ATS
At the conclusion of the first week of exhibition games, the results are in and while they have no bearing on the regular season taking stock of them is worthwhile.  Home teams went a solid 11-5-0 SU and ATS over road teams. And favorites went a solid 11-5-0 SU and 10-6-0 ATS over underdogs. The OVER meanwhile went 9-7-0, with four games cracking the 50-point mark.

Other notable observations from week 1 include: the entire AFC East opened with losses while the entire AFC West opened with wins. As well, the entire NFC West opened on losses while the entire NFC North opened with wins. Minnesota Vikings are 2-0 SU after winning the Hall of Fame Game and the Steelers are 0-2 SU after losing the Hall of Fame Game and suffering a defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 1

How Did We Do With Week 1 NFL betting Picks ATS?
At the conclusion of week 1, we emerge with a 9-6-1 mark on our ATS picks. We correctly picked the Packers, Lions, Redskins, Falcons, Panthers, Broncos, Vikings, Chiefs, and Eagles to cover in their preseason openers. Had the Ravens, at -3.0 on our NFL picks, not pushed in a 30-27 win, we might have had ten covers to kick off the season. That said, the Ravens did close as the 2.5-point favorites so those NFL bettors that banked in late NFL betting markets were able to cash.

In any event, it’s a positive start. Setting us up advantageously for the coming week as we looked to improve on our record further. So let’s get cracking.

Lions +2.5 vs. Redskins -2.5
Lions rolled out of the gates with a big win over the NY Jets, all while covering the 4-point closing spread as the home chalk handily in a 23-3 win. Redskins, meanwhile, upset the Browns on the road in week 1 NFL betting in a 20-17 win, opening the 2-point road dogs before closing on a pick’em line. Much of this game hangs in the balance of how much playing time the starters will get; mainly, RGIII for the Redskins, who are the home faves. Matthew Stafford looked good in the first game throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate and Ameer Abdullah impressed running for 67 yards. With the Lions mainly unchallenged by the Jets and rested (fourth string quarterback Garrett Gilbert was given time on the field), we quite fancy their chances against a Redskins side that still has a lot to prove.

NFL Picks: Lions +2.5

Bills +2.5 vs. Browns -2.5
Bills quarterback situation looked bright in week 1 with all three accounting well, despite losing to the Panthers. It was a narrow loss anyway, 25-24 albeit at home. Reports are that Tyrod Taylor is to start this game. On the flipside, both Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel performed well enough in their loss to the Redskins. This could be a tossup, but we’re going with the sturdy Buffalo Bills and their stout defense over the Browns at home.

NFL Picks: Bills +2.5

Falcons +1.5 vs. Jets -1.5
If the Jets defense is as punch-less as they were in game 1, the Falcons offense will ride roughshod over them. Ryan Fitzpatrick is now the go-to quarterback but it’s hard to see the Jets risking him too much in this game, now that they are down a quarterback with Geno Smith’s injury. We’re taking the Falcons as the nominal road dogs.

NFL Picks: Falcons +1.5

Seahawks vs. Chiefs EVEN
Seattle Seahawks are searching for their first win of the preseason when they descend on Arrowhead to take on the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs upset the Cardinals in week 1 NFL preseason betting while the Seahawks succumbed to the Denver Broncos at home. This is a tossup on our NFL picks because the Chiefs offense was impressive against the Cardinals. We all know how good and deep the Seahawks defense is. Home edge tips it slightly in favor of the Chiefs in our books.

NFL Picks: Chiefs Even

Ravens +3.5 vs. Eagles -3.5
If this billing lives up to expectations, it should be a high-octane affair. In week 1 NFL preseason betting, the Ravens served up 30-points in their win over the Saints while the Eagles overwhelmed the Colts 36-10. Tim Tebow was quite impressive in his first game back in 2 years. So far, it looks like Chip Kelly’s offensive gamble is a real hit. Look for the Eagles to make it two in a row in the NFL preseason.

NFL Picks: Eagles -3.5

Dolphins +1.0 vs. Panthers -1.0
Dolphins starters won the battle over the Bears, but then the backups came onto the field and it all went tits up. There’s a lot to like about the Dolphins’ starters but they’re hardly going to play a full game here. Looking at the backup vs. backup, one has to like the home side on the small 1-point spread.

NFL Picks: Panthers -1.0

Bears +3.0 vs. Colts -3.0
John Fox’s debut as the Bears’ head coach got off the ground better than most expected with a win. However, how good the Bears are is another matter entirely. Colts were eviscerated by the Eagles in Sunday’s week 1 preseason closer. Look for the Colts to put in a better account with this game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

NFL Picks: Colts -3.0

Jaguars +3.0 vs. Giants -3.0
Giants’ first-string offense was disappointing in week 1 while Blake Bortles and his O-line looked better than many would have expected against a solid Steelers side. The Jaguars are on the road and a 3-point spread is quite large for a preseason game, all things being considered. But they just might pull it off.

NFL Picks: Jaguars +3.0

Patriots +1.0 vs. Saints -1.0
Patriots take on the Saints at the Superdome, in a game that is currently trading on a 1-point spread. Home edge tips it in favor of the Saints and, usually, a nominal spread for a home team is a good NFL pick. Still, the defense is shoddy and Garoppolo will look to work out the kinks. Patriots with the point just seems too good not to tickle.

NFL Picks: Patriots +1.0

Broncos +3.0 vs. Texans -3.0
The Broncos were very good in the 22-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks last weekend with backup Brock Osweiller playing above his head, showing his undeniable quality. He’s sure to get most of the reps in this game, which makes the Broncos a really good NFL pick as the 3-point road dogs. The QB battle in Texas just heated up with Ryan Mallet, Tom Savage and Brian Hoyer taking turns. The former was standout completing 10 of his 11 passes for 90 yards. Should be an interesting game in Houston.

NFL Picks: Broncos +3.0

Raiders +4.5 vs. Vikings -4.5
This is the largest spread currently trading in week 2 NFL preseason betting. Vikings have been rather convincing, winning two straight in the preseason but are they really worth almost five-points right now? They’ll be looking for a third straight win at home when they welcome the Raiders, who are flush off a convincing18-3 win over the Rams. Home edge tips it towards the Vikings, so we’ll take a chance on the 4.5-points.

NFL Picks: Vikings -5.0

Chargers +2.5 vs. Cardinals -2.5
Carson Palmer had a brief look into week 1 NFL betting and he looked rather good coming off an injury. Chargers are also pleased to have Danny Woodhead back. There’s a lot to like about both these teams, but we’re giving the edge to the Cardinals at home. They did lose to the Chiefs in week 1, but they should do enough against the Chargers backups to get the win here.

NFL Picks: Cardinals -2.5

Packers +3.0 vs. Steelers -3.0
Many NFL bettors are predicting this game to be a shootout. We’re not so sure. Steelers offense has yet to come out of its slumber. Two games into the preseason and they’ve accounted for 24 points while defense has conceded 37 points. Last week, they were edged 23-21 by the Jaguars. It’s their first home game of the preseason, so the balance swings in their favor. Nevertheless, we’re taking the points with the Packers.

NFL Picks: Packers +3.0

Cowboys +3.5 vs. Niners -3.5
The Niners failed to impress in week 1 NFL betting as they lost 23-10 to the Texans on the road. In week 2 of the preseason, they take on the Cowboys, who were the best road team last season. Romo might see more playing time than he did in week 1 and that could tip the scale towards the road underdogs, who are coming off a rather lacklustre 17-7 loss to the Chargers. It’s a tossup on our NFL picks. The pressure is on the Niners offense and Kaepernick to put up. Taking a chance on the Niners here as the home chalk, but feeling no joy in it.

NFL Picks: Niners -3.5

Rams +1.5 vs. Titans -1.5
Marcus Mariota was schooled in his first game in the NFL. The St; Louis Rams defense should give him yet another lesson to chew on.

NFL Picks: Rams +1.5

Bengals +2.0 vs. Buccaneers -2.0
Bengals were solid in game 1 of the preseason and they should have a field day with Jameis Winston in Tampa Bay. Two points to the Bengals is just too good to pass on your NFL picks.

NFL Picks: Bengals +2.0
