Most casual bettors will back the Redskins with picks, since they're well-rested & playing with positive momentum against a team who handed their HC his only NFL-Ex loss, the Baltimore Ravens.
Washington Redskins vs. Baltimore Ravens (-4) 7:30 ET
The Washington Redskins visit the Baltimore Ravens at 7:30 ET Saturday night for a continuing contest in the Beltway series. Last year, Baltimore won this matchup in the 3rd week of the exhibition season (23-17) as a 2 point home favorite. This season, Washington enters with 9 days rest and a 2-0 SU ATS NFL-Ex record. It is a short 1 hour trip north to Baltimore. In their first game, Washington won at Cleveland (20-17). They then followed it up with a (21-17) home victory vs. Detroit last Thursday night. In that contest, it was all Washington at the point of attack. The Redskins outrushed Detroit 40/179 to 13/46. They even overcame a -2 in the net TO column for the victory.
There has been the usual in-camp bickering between QB Griffin, his teammates and the media. They will be on full display tonight, along with quality back-ups, QB Cousins and 3rd stringer QB McCoy. Washington also takes the field noting that they are 5-1 SU in 2 years of NFL-Ex play under 2nd year HC Gruden (lone loss on this field last year to the Ravens). With 9 days to prepare, Washington should be well focused on this revenge meeting and extending their successful preseason record.
On the other sideline is a disgruntled Baltimore HC Harbaugh. Though 1-1 SU in August more is expected by Harbaugh, who has a strong NFL-Ex record of 20-10 SU. The defensive performances to date have been underwhelming. The Ravens eked out a 30-27 Week 1 home victory vs. New Orleans in one of the most thrilling games of Week 1. Last week, the defense sunk to an August low in a 40-17 loss at Philly. In that game, the Eagles used a perfectly balanced offense that ran and passed for an identical 238 yards to win going away. A strong QB rotation of starter Flacco and his substitute QB Schaub will provide the Ravens with plenty of offensive potential. But, it is a defense to which HC Harbaugh has paid special attention this week.
This is an ideal test for the placing NFL picks based on "Rehearsal Reversal." The visiting Skins are well rested and playing with positive momentum against a team who handed their HC his only NFL-Ex loss. Nonetheless, must favor the home-standing Ravens who have been embarrassed defensively the last 2 weeks (allowing 67 total points) and will look to bounce back with a home victory as the better team behind HC Harbaugh, who has proven that winning is important for his team in August.
