The NFL season is finally upon us, and it is once again time for me to kick off my player and team prop coverage. We cashed both of our player prop picks to start the season, so we will try to get the mark to 5-0 with three more NFL odds from bet365.
Ryan Tannehill O/U 270 ½ Passing Yards
Despite being on the road, the Dolphins are firm NFL odds favorites in this one, and a lot of knowledgeable NFL analysts are picking the Miami Dolphins to make a run at the playoffs this season. That means they need to dominate games like this, and with the Redskins rushing defense better than average, the passing game is where the Dolphins will win or lose this game. Their defense is going to give them plenty of chances, and with an expanded receiving core this season, and another year of experience for Tannehill, the over looks like the play here. Tannehill has steadily improved over his first three seasons in the NFL, and late last season he was throwing the ball with great success. He averaged 333 passing yards per game over the Dolphins’ last three games, so take the over here against what should be a bad Washington secondary.
My Pick: OVER 270 ½ passing yards (-125)
Isaiah Crowell O/U 55 ½ Rushing Yards
I’ve gone on record saying I think this game will be the lowest scoring of the day, but there are other reasons also why the Cleveland Browns might be in single digits. They have absolutely no passing game, and the Jets stout run defense will be throwing eight men in the box the entire game. Crowell also is going to face a challenge from Duke Johnson this season. The Browns spent a relatively high draft pick on the 5’9 rookie out of Miami, and he could easily split carries with Crowell in this one, or just take over if Crowell only gains 20 yards on his first 10 carries. The point is, the Jets are good enough on defense, and Crowell is just not that good. Take the under with your NFL picks.
My Pick: UNDER 55 ½ rushing yards (-135)
Martellus Bennett TD Scored
The Chicago Bears are going to be dying for playmakers this season outside of Alshon Jeffery and Matt Forte, and with Brandon Marshall gone, Martellus Bennett is the guy. He is also an insane value to score a touchdown this week at +130 from bet365. This guy is going to easily see double-digit targets in this game, and if he got 90 receptions last season and 6 touchdowns, he might be able to go to double-digit touchdowns this season without Brandon Marshall in the mix. Bennett is a huge red-zone target for Jay Cutler and the Bears, and in a game that they will almost certainly be behind and having to throw, Bennett’s chances of scoring a touchdown are much better than his NFL odds suggest. Last season versus Green Bay at home, Bennett had 11 targets, 9 receptions for 134 yards. I think he sees that kind of production, just with pay dirt involved as well.
My Pick: Martellus Bennett TD Scored (+130)
