Pittsburgh has shown their veteran chops as they've handled the injury to Big Ben as well as possible, and they're 4-2 after beating Arizona. KC, not so much as they're 1-5 after falling at Minnesota.
Opening Odds & Line Movement
Open: No odds at Pinnacle
There were no NFL odds for this game as of Thursday as the sportsbooks are probably awaiting confirmation that it will be Jones starting under center for the Steelers. However, there is still speculation that Roethlisberger could return this week, and that could be another reason why the line isn't out yet. It would be a surprise if the Chiefs were favored at home, even if it was Jones starting for the Steelers, as their offense looks lost without Jamaal Charles.
Roethlisberger is still waiting to test out his injured knee in contact drills, although he has been practicing and throwing the ball. The Steelers would be better served resting their franchise quarterback, especially if Jones plays as he did when he replaced Vick, who had to leave the Arizona game after tweaking his hamstring. But the Steelers did receive some good news as C Maurkice Pouncey didn't need a second surgery for his fibula injury; however, they still don't know when he'll be back. The Steelers don't have many new injuries to report, but they're still pretty banged up.
The Chiefs could be in even bigger trouble as WR Jeremy Maclin left the Minnesota game with a concussion, which means he'll have to clear protocol before he can play in this game. The loss of Charles was a killer for the Chiefs, but they barely have a chance without Maclin, which leaves TE Travis Kelce as QB Alex Smith's main target in the passing game. DT Dontari Poe is still dealing with a high-ankle sprain as well.
The Steelers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games overall, and they have the same ATS record in their last five games on the road. The Chiefs have lost and failed to cover in their last five games, but they're 6-3 ATS in their last nine at home.
Pittsburgh is 4-1 SU in their last five meetings with the Chiefs, but just 2-3 ATS. In Kansas City, the Steelers re 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS in their last five trips.
